If somebody were to ask me what the best film I’ve ever seen was my answer would probably be Ridley Scott’s opus magnum Alien, a film that I think is flawless. There are a couple of films like Alien that I consider to be flawless, such as The Godfather, The Passion of Joan of Arc, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Spirited Away and Seven Samurai.
All of these are absolute Must-Sees and will show up on most people’s Top 100 lists and they deserve everything coming to them and as much as I love all of them none of them come even close to being as important to me as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. It is my favourite and…

Film #56 of The December Project
I love time travel films, so if I ever make a personal ranked list of them, this would for sure be high up there. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time uses the time travel plot to explore themes around acceptance and regret better than a lot of live action films. It's also a great high school film, with some romance thrown in for good measure. The experience of watching this film was emotional for me, causing me to reflect on my own high school experience and the regrets associated with that time in my life.
I don't watch a ton of animated films, especially ones geared at older audiences like this one. I think…

I'd already started to think of these Studio Ghibli type things as comfort food, and I definitely wasn't expecting one to bloody well plough up my soul, as this did in the second half. I watch other films at other times for that.
I have pretty much been obsessed with time travel since childhood, whether it's about history, or a groundhog-daydream that gives a few minutes or hours' respite and relaxation, feeling for a while as if I'd been able to make something in my life go better. So, to some extent I expected to click with The Girl Who Leapt Though Time, just to have a good think about what I'd do with this particular mode of time travel.…

“Makoto! Time waits for no one...”
-Yuri Hayakawa (Ayami Kakiuchi)You know, I hear a lot of people cite either DreamWorks or Pixar as the greatest animators of all time, but I would argue that the foreign studios are just as great, if not sometimes better. Whilst both deliver films of undeniably high quality from a technical perspective, I often find the former two try too hard to be orientated for the younger audiences, whereas the foreign companies are always more honest, for lack of a better word.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Originally; Toki o kakeru shojo) is an adaptation from the novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui and follows a young schoolgirl, Makoto, who gains the ability to travel… -
short review : ^_^
this is a simple movie with unpretentious approach on a time travel theme. it's so refreshing to watch a movie with such innocence i can't help myself enjoying it every time.

Refreshing anime about time travel. The drawing and sountrack are good, but the overall story could have been more exciting. The whole teenager stuff got me quite bored in some point, but with the ending twists it was all worth it.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an exceptional anime. Everyone loves time travel and this one takes a unique and personal take on it. What starts as innocent, meaningless and possibly selfish reasons for time travel turn into deliberate time changing moments. But what the main character, Makoto, doesn't realize is that the more she changes things for herself the more she changes things for others, and not in a good way.
The story is very good. It's heartfelt, emotional even humorous sometimes. I'd say the only negative I can say is that the animation doesn't look that great for a full length movie. I mean it looks serviceable enough and doesn't detract from the film but don't expect Disney or Studio Ghibli type animation. However, this is all but a minor issue in an otherwise excellent movie.

it's good but the animation is kind of primitive (think original digimon movies)

Film No.4 in my Anime Marathon
"Time Waits For No One"
A very entertaining high school anime romance, which just happens to include time travel. The story follows Makoto Konno a young girl who falls over a weird walnut looking object and after a near death experience. discovers she can time jump, which she then abuses this power frivolously.
You have to love the way Makoto uses her power as any teenager would, to pass exams, avoids awkward situations, and relives fun moments over and over. Giving her character and other characters a quite realistic credibility. The film is also wonderfully animated with beautiful colours, and stunningly unique scenery.
The film does however slow down a lot in the final third in it's desperation to wrap everything up, and try to explain any plot elements that may need more explaining.
A wonderfully compelling story, and reminds me of some of my favorite aspects of anime. In it's good natured sweetness.

Really pleasantly surprised by this one. A few hiccups toward the end, but the second act is just incredible. The tension and emotion are top-notch. One of the best animated films in recent memory.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a delightful film about an average teenage girl named Makoto who discovers she has the ability to travel backwards through time, using this ability she begins using it to fix her mistakes and help out her friends but soon learns that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
What appears to be a generic high school romance actually has more depth to it, there are some strong themes about acceptance and regret and importance of decisions through the consequences we create from our actions and choices, we only have one chance to get it right the first time.
While I'm not usually a fan of the time travel stuff, I must say I enjoyed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, it's very emotional and there's some nice visuals and music in there as well. -
Technically, it's fantastic. Wonderful animation; very fluid, colorful. Lovely piano music.
The thing that stood out to me the most was the contrast between Mokoto's trivial, upbeat everyday life and the pessimism about the future. It was unexpected (just like the train scene) but I think it worked. Mokoto's story is filled with interpersonal interactions, human emotion; yet the city itself is personified as impersonal, mechanical, unchanging.
It's not perfect; the ending is a bit drawn out and like most time travel movies it has its fair share of time travel bullshit. This ain't no Primer, but it doesn't try to be. It's beautifully animated and emotive, and I definitely enjoyed it.
