"You turd!"
Ok, a show of hands from all those that don't like The Goonies? Right.
GET OUT! Go on, get lost! Lock the doors behind them. Yes, use the chain as well, just in case.
Now we've got that out of the way, let's have The Goonies. Back when I was around 11 and 12, I used to rent this out from the video shop every other Saturday (Predator worked the other alternate weeks) and watch it over lunch with a nice cheese sandwich and iced finger. I can't remember what I had to drink, probably Ribena, actually. I saw it so many times that, despite not having watched it for over 10 years, I still remembered every word.…

It's the closest you can get to reliving you're own first impressions of the film. During the last few years I've discovered that what I love even more then that is rewatching childhood favorites with my stepdaughter. I'm always a little nervous though until I find out if she liked the movie or not, because if she disagrees with me then I have to ground her for a week.
I wasn't sure how The Goonies was going to take with her, because in my mind it's always been a film that…

It had been a while. I think some 15 years. And it is still the childhood I've always wanted and, in my memory, always had.
This, even though it is aesthetically an Indiana Jones for kids, is perfect adventure magic. The conceit is old and has been around since the dawning of fiction for children. Kids are a tough audience and stories like this need to appeal to their innate sense of adventure and boundless fantasy. Think of the Wizard of Oz or, rather closely related to this, Treasure Island. Anything is possible and these tales provide a means of escape from the real world, which is the essence of adventure stories and a basic need for any kid, something…

This is one of my all time favourite films. Stick this on and enjoy one of the greatest family adventures ever put to film. A bunch of friends who are all due to move house as their town is due to be levelled to make way for a golf course go on one last big adventure. They find a treasure map in Mikey & Brandon's loft and go off in search of treasure to save their families homes. As they gallivant around the town looking for clues they unfortunately bump into a family of criminals - the Fratelli's - who are on the run from the police. Here their adventure turns dangerous as they as they negotiate a labyrinth of trap-laden…

Its my 35th birthday today so what better way of celebrating entering the wrong side of my 30's than reliving my youth with this classic 80's kids adventure story. Film #31 of No Rewatch November
So much fun. They knew how to make kids good on screen in the 80's. I recently watched Stand by Me as well and loved it. Can anyone recommend similar movies to this and Stand by Me? Mainly I love the interactions in a group of kids and the different skills they each have.
Also, Richard Donner is the man. Solid, solid guy as far as I'm concerned.

Only found out about this movie last year. OMG, I wish I was an 80s kid. So many awesome movies!
If these kids had gone to my school, I so would've hung out with them. I want to have an adventure! :(

Aaaaaa my childhood. I love this movie for obvious reasons.

Prior to seeing this on the big screen at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, I don’t believe I ever saw this film in its entirety from start to finish. I’m glad I finally did. While the premise of the film is wholly ridiculous, the film is an utter delight. From a storytelling standpoint, I was pleased to see how Donner’s and Spielberg’s tendencies actually blended instead of clashed. And what better way to see a film than have three cast members afterward discussing the film, answering questions, and posing for pictures with audience members?

The very first movie I saw without parents / adults accompanying me. Me, my brother and kids of family friends attended a matinee screening one summer afternoon, and even snuck in our own candy via a carefully planned operation involving a backpack and excuses and explanations should we rouse suspicion.
The Goonies will always represent adventure and fun in my childhood. Beyond fun!

In true Spielberg fashion, movie genre perception is altered in outstanding effect with the child based adventure film ‘The Goonies’. Serving this film as both screenwriter and producer, his influence can be felt throughout - and his willingness to change public acceptance on his genre shift. That genre shift being the disposal of the boundary between films aimed at children and adults - fusing into something that works for both with different elements. This has carried forward into his other movies since, but can be rooted back to this film as the real starter to this change. Therefore, ‘The Goonies’ should be really seen as a industry changer, as well as the good film that is. With a simple narrative…

I didn't grow up with it, so I had no idea what to expect. Thankfully this is not one of those movies that's been ruined by those who love it unabashedly. It has its laughs, its quirks, its fun, its adventure. The cheese is endearing and, overall, a whole better than I expected.

I haven't seen this before but even without the nostalgic value I had a ridiculously good time with it. An excellent kiddie adventure!
