They made a pretty decent thriller about a fairly boring topic (The IBBC).
Many reviewers found it boring, but I was pretty hooked from beginning til end. I would like to mention that the shoot-out scene in the Guggenheim was pretty fucking awesome. More of that please. :) -
Sometimes a man can meet his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.
-Wilhelm WexlerThe quality of the directing and acting feels like it should have had better (or more) material to work with. Tom Tykwer really manages to pull off a few great scenes in a movie that would have ended up pretty boring with a less talented director at the helm. I would love to see what he could do with a thriller that had a more complex plot.

A friend of mine calls Naomi Watts 'The devil in a bikini' both after her performance in 'I Heart Huckabees' and the fact she grates on him so much. He'll be glad to know that despite her heavy use in the promo material for 'The International' she barely appears in it. Instead it falls on the world-weary shoulders of Clive Owen.
He's an Interpol agent on the case of corrupt bankers using their legitimate business as the cover for arms dealing. Yes very topical having bankers as baddies, but as it transpires, actually quite dull. Now all us geeks know that hacking is a sexy exciting topic, but whenever anyone does it on screen (Jolie excluded), it comes across as…

Muodinmukainen globaali trilleri, jossa kuvauslokaatiot on ripoteltu Luxemburgiin, New Yorkiin, Berliiniin ja Milanoon. Talouspoliittista shaissea snadisti liikaa.

Just a big mess. The entire plot is a deep abyss of nothingness and could be simplified much better and become much more effective to the viewer. And it drags out way too much. It is just shy of 2 hours but I feel like it's been over 4 hours. Clive Owen doesn't really do anything special and overall the acting is incredibly mediocre. Unless you have a lot of free time or your heart set on seeing it, it's definitely a skip.

Καταπληκτική ταινία, απλά θα χρειαστώ άλλη μια προβολή να διαχωρίσω τους συνδέσμους των κατασκόπων γιατί ύπηρχε ένα μπέρδεμα.

Feels like a Bourne light action thriller, only with a lot more thriller than action. I like Clive Owen and obviously Naomi Watts so the cast is alright, although it looked like Owen is a bad runner. Maybe I need more evidence just to be sure though. Some nice shots, I believe the scene in the end takes place at the exact same place as the motorcycle chase in Skyfall. At one point in the movie I was able to guess the exact lines, word for word, two lines in advance. I don't know what to make of that, maybe I'm just that good or the script is not so inspired at times. In the end, I was kind of bored.

The Guggenheim sequence was obviously the highlight, well-staged and shot. Everything else was ho-hum or worse. Most notably on the negative ledger: Naomi Watts was terribly miscast--not tough enough to be believable in her job. Worse though was the writing, which throws out more one-line "words of wisdom" than not, a tactic that becomes downright egregious as the film progresses.
