Film #11 of The December Project
I have an unhealthy obsession with David Duchovny. He just makes me melt! I don't know if it's his sarcastic tone or his weird laugh or what, but he can do no wrong for me.
Now that I have that out of the way, I don't get why The Joneses doesn't get more love! It's a smart film, filled with decent performances and interesting ideas. It's about a "family unit" thrown together by a "stealth marketing agency" who sell products indirectly through their lavish lifestyle. Everything they get to use and show off on a daily basis forms their daily routine, but they also actively try to make people jealous of their life and…

Idée originale et qui porte à réflexion avec une histoire d'amour... On passe un bon moment :)

An interesting concept: a satire on American middle-class consumerist culture with a twist. David Duchovny and Demi Moore are paired well together in a film that doesn't really have any specific memorable moments and yet overall, keeps you thinking long after the credits have rolled. The dvd cover is slightly misleading as the film does have its dark moments and seems to work better as domestic drama. A film with a message.

If you haven't heard of a movie that stars two relatively big names like Demi Moore and David Duchovny, there's usually a reason. This film had a great premise (fake family are stealth marketers who are hired to make everyone want their lifestyle and consumer products), but the tone of the film lurches all over the place (is it a comedy? a black comedy? a serious morality tale? a romantic comedy?). Ultimately the moral of the story is so anvilicious, you forget what you liked about the film when it started.

Fun movie about your average 'family' with a twist at their true intentions.

I liked the setting and the interesting concepts this movie addressed. The acting, the setting (neighborhoods), and the story line combined to create a unique film. For me, the first half of the movie was much better than the second half. I'm not a huge fan of of when movies decide that everything must take a turn for the worst (zapped some of the fun out of the movie). That being said, I thought the message had some merit and I enjoyed the movie overall. I think the movie would have been much better if they went the happy family route rather than the downward spiral the last 35 minutes offered.

Enjoyable satire with a great - and original - premise. Duchovny, Moore and Cole are all very good and the only thing holding the movie back is that it isn't quite dark or edgy enough.

I had no idea what this film was about before I started watching it. I was a little surprised when I figured out what was going on. It made me start questioning whether or not people like this really exist. If they do... it's scary.
The film itself isn't bad. I liked it. David Duchovny is usually pretty likeable, that's no different here. I found myself mostly irritated with Demi Moore's character though. The kids are... don't even get me started on the kids.
It's an interesting look at relationships between neighbors, society and the like.

It is an interesting enough concept but hard to swallow a diatribe on rampant consumerism through brand placement while watching 90 minutes of BRAND PLACEMENT.
Seriously? -
Very interesting premise ruined by a less than stellar cast. Duchovny really tries to pull the dead weight but alas even he isn't capable of elevating this picture to heights it should have seen.
