This largely forgotten drama deserves more praise than it garnered on release 6-years ago. Much of that is due to the sensitive and honest writing, the film boasting a screenplay that dares audiences to fall in love with a group of selfish bastards, and thanks to the three dimensional character constructs and solid performances we largely do. Director Tony Goldwyn opts for a reserved visual motif and pleasingly mellow soundtrack to set the vibe, but it's the unflinching sincerity and universal pains radiating from nearly every frame that provide this underrated gem with emotional depth and artistic value.

This has to be Zach Braff at his best; he is absolutely brilliant in this and, whilst I love Garden State, his character is so much more engaging and likeable, for the best part, making it a very easy film to relate to. On a whole, this is a lovely and heart-warming film about relationships - which is highly underrated - that even males can enjoy, giving a genuine look at life and love. What makes this film so spectacular for me, however, is the relationship between Tom Wilkinson and Blythe Danner, which brings a tear to my eye every time. Casey Affleck, too, is a great addition to the cast.

The original (italian) is one of the greatest movies i've ever watched.
This one is a mediocre sunday afternoon movie. -

Not too bad, definitely an acquired taste kinda film. The actors are jerks to each other and not really relatable but that sets it apart from the typical film.

Había oído buenas cosas de esta película y no esta nada mal pero no me convence del todo, la historia esta bien, en cambio los actores son reguleros.

This wasn't as bad as I remembered when I first watched it. I think I hyped it up so much, because it seemed like a follow on from Garden State - even though the only thing they have in common is Zach Braff starring in them. The premise is perfect reading for me, in fact - knock a few years off the ages of the characters, and it probably IS something I've wrote! BUT - somehow it just doesn't translate well in this film. Firstly - I hate hate hate hate the first 20 minutes or so, when it's setting up each character and their particular problem so blatantly. It makes all the writing so contrived, and it should be…

Film #40 of The December Project
Usually American remakes of incredible foreign films are either redundant, off base, or they cheapen the charm of the original. The Last Kiss is a rare example of a remake sticking to the story of the original pretty faithfully, but changing the tone to create a completely different experience. I love the original Italian L'ultimo bacio a lot, but it is a pretty standard story about infidelity. The American remake is instead an excellent depiction of an unwarranted and selfish quarter-life crisis (of the "about to turn 30" variety), one in which people get hurt and do ugly things.
The Last Kiss is about 29-year-old Michael, a man who has gotten everything he's ever…

2012 #100 A really fantastic and highly underrated film that I was really able to relate to on some levels. Only real issue with it is the very ending, which felt like a studio note and made it lose some of its punch. Watched on my macbook pro on dvd.
