Day fifteen of the Bond Film Marathon, film 15:The Living Daylights.
One of my favorites for many reasons: Timothy Dalton, which I feel is the TRUE successor to Sean Connery as James Bond. Making Bond a cold heart, ruthless, bastard in different ways, Like Ian Fleming had him written. Being significantly darker, and grittier than the Moore films. The title song. Moore stepped down and EON had zeroed in on three actors: Timothy Dalton, Sam Neill, and Pierce Brosnan. The Director was impressed with Sam Neill, but producer Albert Broccoli wasn't, so scratch him off. Brosnan seemed next in line to fill in the tuxedo and holster the Walther PPK, but due to contract issues with NBC for the show…

The Journey to Skyfall continues with the fifteenth Bond film. The Living Daylights!
Every time I start my Bond marathons again, I'm always in heartbreak when I reach this film, the first of only two Dalton outings. Dalton was truly the Bond the real fans deserved at the time, especially coming out of the Roger Moore era. If only he had stuck around, the franchise might have been spared some uglier entries had we kept with the darker and grittier Bond, as Fleming intended. Here, the franchise turns back to its Fleming based roots, while also keeping some of the more fun ideals so the other half of the fanbase isn't completely alienated, and the result is a crackling Spy…

Phase III of my Bond Marathon started today with the 15th entry in the James Bond franchise. Roger Moore's leave was waaaaay overdue so it's with great pleasure that for the next 2 films we'll be with a new James Bond. THE best James Bond.
Timothy goddamned Dalton! With a new Bond, we also get a new Miss Moneypenny, the resurrection of the Aston Martin and an exciting turn to the dark side.
From the action packed pre-title sequence on Gibraltar through to the double cross'y shenanigans and teaming up with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan in the final reel, this film is oodles of awesome. One thing that struck me this time around is how much dry humour there is.…

A friend loaned me this Blu-ray with the proclamation: "Dalton is my favourite Bond"! I said he was nuts, but of course never having seen the Dalton Bond films, I was not really able to argue with any sort of conviction.
So I sat down to watch this yesterday with that claim in my head and damned if I didn't love the movie and Dalton in-particular as the gun-toting martini drinker.
As someone who grew up with the Moore Bond films, and liked them, I enjoy a nice bleu cheese stuffed olive in my Bond martini and this had just enough of the cheese blended with the fun and excitement that are part of the Bond franchise I know and…

Part of:
Dr. No-vember or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bond FilmsForget the ladies for once, Bond.
-SaundersFor the 25th Anniversary of 007 we get a new James Bond and a new attitude for the franchise. The Roger Moore era of films seemed to have an identity crisis from film to film going from great to goofy and back again. Finally the filmmakers decide they want an edgier Bond, with less laughs and less women. Yes, they even made a conscious decision that Bond wouldn't sleep around with multiple women in the film.
A new search for James Bond was a bit different this time around because they actually had some logical choices in…

Of all the Bond films, this is the one I've seen only the once. And that time of viewing was well over 15 years or so ago. So it was nice to revisit it after such a long time.
After Roger Moore's departure, Timothy Dalton came in and donned Bonds shoes in some style, in my opinion. He's often seen the forgotten 007, even Lazenby is more well known probably due to the impression given that he's the "Worst Bond". Personally I prefer Roger Moore (Yes, I'm one of them), but Dalton here is fantastic. His portrayal is one of a James Bond who comes across as being worn down and disillusioned by his job, not to mention the murder…

Dalton's best. Not the best bond but delivers action, and romance. Bond returns to take down an arms dealer with the help of a cello player. Dalton I don't mind as bond, but Licence to Kill just isn't as good as this one. -
Timothy Dalton's debut 007 adventure is one of the best in the series and a major improvement after Moore's A View to a kill limped off, with a classy story, great cast and John Barry's final score for a Bond movie...Living Daylights is a fantastic piece of entertainment.

Timothy Doltan makes for a great Bond if you ask me.
Too bad the film tries so hard to please old Bond fans while trying to keep up with the action films of the 80s.
Gadgets are back again heavily (which i didn't like) and the villain is completely forgetable. -

I've always said that Timothy Dalton was my favourite Bond, and watching this film again after watching the others only confirmed it.
Maybe it's his manner, or that the films themselves changed, (more serious, less misogynistic), but this is up their as one of my favourites.
Such a shame he didn't get to do more.
Meglamania Plot Score: 5/10 - Convoluted but cunning, no world domination here, just good old fashioned greed.
Henchmen Score: 7/10 - Andreas Wisniewski's Necros. No frills, no silly gadgets or wierd ticks. Just a good-honest cold bloodied killer.

"Death To Spies" are the words to set the tone for this, the first Timothy Dalton James Bond movie. This 007 is darker, grittier and more to the true incarnation of Ian Fleming, and Dalton does a perfect job in becoming the super spy after the near impossible task following the 12 year run of family favouirte Roger Moore.
Following a breataking pre-title sequence where 2 00 Agents are killed in a routine SAS training excerise, Bond is assigned to assit with the defection of KGB General Koskov (Jerone Krabbe) from across the Communist border. 007 finds himself in a web of betrayal and international arms dealing when all is not what it was thought to be. The beautiful, strong…
