Joseph Gordon Levitt has come a long way since 3rd Rock From The Sun hasn't he? He went from being nothing but a recurring character on an NBC sitcom to being in tons of blockbuster Hollywood films, even the latest Batman movie. Being a long time fan of 3rd Rock ever since I was a kid, I'm honestly proud of the guy. With hype going around some of his upcoming projects (like next month's Looper which I cannot wait to see) I thought I should look at a lesser known but criminally underrated film of his from when he was still working his way up the ladder...The Lookout.
This is such a fantastic film and the main reason why it…

I have the money. I have the power.
-Chris PrattScott Frank's writing credits include such films as Get Shorty, Out of Sight and Minority Report. His script for The Lookout had Sam Mendes attached to it, but he went on to direct Revolutionary Road instead. The script then made it's way to David Fincer who hadn't directed anything since 2002, but again the director dropped the project for another film, in this case it was Zodiac. Finally with Fincher leaving the project, Frank decided to make his directorial debut with his own script.
I keep seeing the film being compared to Memento and I'd just like to mention that this film is NOTHING like Memento. The only thing it…

Nice film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt keeps on surprising me with his versatility and does a good job here. Jeff Daniels is his usual likeable self. Matthew Goode also excels. Interesting premise where the first half is more drama and the second half is more suspense.

It's a typical crime film mixed with Memento. A solid little flick.

Good flick. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is becoming a really solid actor.

Combination of a two films, a character study of the Joseph Gordon-Levitt character and a heist movie. For once in the history of cinema, they cared more about the character than the action and heist. Too be honest, they probably went too far because the heist wasn't too interesting. The character study of Gordon-Levitt was really well played. So nuanced and not over the top. --- After seeing Mathew Goode in Watchmen, I thought that he was a horrible actor. Then I saw him do a really good job in A Single Man and was confused. Now I re-watch The Lookout and realize that he’s the main bad guy. He’s really good. I now realize that he was just really miscast in Watchmen. Also, on the second viewing, I not surprisingly cared less about the heist and enjoyed the performances more.

Very good noir, the characters are all interesting and Joseph Gordon Levitt does a great job as usual, he really conveys the idea of a life arrested by guilt, and a burden of what could have been, a really promising life stopped in it's tracks.

Probably my least favorite of JGL movies. Good depiction of how a life threatening experience can affect someone's life.

Great little hidden gem of a film.

JGL is Chris Pratt, an all star hockey player/promising student from a wealthy family with the world at his feet...and then he crashes his car while drunk/stupid, killing two of his friends, seriously injuring his girlfriend and leaving him brain damaged, affecting his short term memory and unable to do simple everyday tasks in 'sequence'. He lives with a blind man (Jeff Daniels) working as a janitor in a local bank. One night he's approached by Gary, who soon befriends him, but it soon becomes clear he has ulterior motives involving the bank Chris works in.......
It was a pretty nice heist movie. JGL is a likeable protagonist and Jeff Daniels was the loveable-rogue-blind-man TM, and the rest of the…

I love this movie. Not a lot of strong opinions from people I know in regards to this movie, but I thought it was great. The score is wonderful, too.

JGL doesn't do shit films as far as I can see.

Based on the praise I read about, and its current rating at the Tomatometer, I rented this one today and wasn't disappointed. A pretty good film that's rare to see coming around nowadays. The mixture of heist movie with a dramatic background (or should I say, a dramatic film with the backdrop of a heist) works great. The film's pacing is slow, but engaging. The performances were superbly natural. The directing was spot on. And the film just breezed by. Could've stayed watching more. Easily one of the best films of the year.
