The Lucky One
2012 Directed by Scott Hicks
Synopsis
U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn't even know. Learning her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

Who’s the lucky one? Not me as I’m forced to sit through another Nicholas Sparks movie adaptation.
If you’ve ever seen a film based on one of his novels (and my condolences if you have) then you’ll know exactly what to expect here as he seems to write his stories via a carefully constructed checklist:
- Small town [x]
- Set in the South [x]
- Featuring a smouldering but damaged hunky lead [x]
- Kissing in the rain [x]
- The woman has father or ex-husband issues [x]
- Bereavement plays a part [x]
- Nauseatingly wholesome [x]
- Driven by fate [x]
- Animals bring people together [x]
- Devoid of drama or interesting characters [x]It is…

And just think, all this could've been avoided if soft-spoken, dog-loving, chess-and-piano-playing, sensitively damaged Zac Efron had shaken his head shyly when Hot Single Mom assumes - for no good reason - that he's here about the ad, looked her up and down with his strong but gentle eyes and shown her the damn photo. The End.

I consider The Lucky One to be anyone that hasn't sat through this cinematic excretion.

The second Spark's film I've seen. Terribly predictable, full of awkward groping and kissing in the rain, shocker, I know. Efron's acting consisted of blank stares and conveying zero emotion while the other chick just over-acted everything.
If someone told me I had to watch this again or spend a week in a concentration camp, I'd be blowin' guards and peddlin' my rations just so I'd never have to sit through this film one more time. -
Well, very much predictable, i liked the way it started, about him thinking that the picture saved his life, but then just about right from there its was just plainly predictable, nothing much interesting, as as expected some douchebag comes along to disturb the girl, blah blah blah, like i said, predictable.
Is it worth watching once, depends on your mood at the time, you feeling good then avoid it, feeling sad and lonely , heck , just watch it.
Cheers

"All Glory Is Fleeting" is what Marine Sgt. Efron's back tattoo reads.

I only watched it for Zac Efron. Otherwise it was a typical Nicholas Sparks romance

Typical Nicolas Sparks story line, very predictable and sub par/ poor acting. Good for Zac Efron to get out of the children genre of movies. But he still has a ways to come, to get lead roles in successful movies

"How do you explain something that you can't even understand yourself?"
This quote from Zac Efron's character named Logan Thibault, kinda perfectly identifies how this review is going to go. As i kind of have no idea why i liked this movie.
The story goes, and as i understand it your typical Nicholas Sparks story. U.S Marine Logan Thibault is saved by his finding of a photograph of a girl, he finds said girl and instead of revealing how he came to meet her. He ends up working at the family owned kennels. The only other Sparks movie I've seen is the Notebook. Which i kinda liked as well, but that did have some heart pulling tear jerking moments. This…

Finally a Sparks-movie where the right person dies in the end.

As every film based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, The Lucky One is cheesy. However, Efron and Schilling's Chemistry is making up for the naive script and over-sweet dialogue.

An inoffensive, inconsequential romantic drama that I was basically fine with until the last 10 minutes when the movie lost its mind and seemingly helicoptered in a super melodramatic and unintentionally hilarious climax from a completely different movie. Otherwise, the basic plot and "twists" are all predictable from the start but it's pleasant enough and more watchable than a lot of the other Nicholas Sparks adaptations.

I've never read a Nicholas Sparks novel (and I don't really ever plan to) but I have no shame in saying that the film adaptations of his stories are hands down my guiltiest pleasures.
Every once and awhile a romantic drama with a basic plot and a happy ending is exactly what you (I) need. I may be the only one but I'm really glad that simple love stories like this exist.
