Reviews of The Muppets Take Manhattan 1984

One of the great little bonuses of having a toddler is that he loves the Muppets, so I put this on for him during a cranky day. Not only did he love it, but I was reminded how much I enjoyed this little entry -- the directing debut for Oz, as a matter of fact. The jokes are witty, the songs are fun and I love the big musical finale. Yeah, it's jokes are not as rapid-fire as "Great Muppet Caper," and its lacking the heart of "The Muppet Movie" and "The Muppets," but it's still a lot of fun.

Muppets. The word alone evokes images of muppets.

The Muppet babies are some of the cutest things ever committed to film.

The Muppets Take Manhattan falls somewhere in between Kicking and Screaming - the Noah Baumbach film, not the Will Ferrell one - and Reality Bites in the ultimate post-college film stakes.
It's funny in a light way, it's got better songs than it has any right to, and, although it lags towards the end, there's a surprisingly strong plot.
The next time I go for an interview, I'm walking in with You Can't Take No For An Answer playing in my head.

Who doesn't love The Muppets? As a child of the 1970s and 1980s, they were a staple in my life. While I love THE MUPPET MOVIE, I think the Muppets were at their cinematic best, funniest, most adorable, entertaining, and loveable in their Manhattan adventure. It has one of my favorite lines -- Kermit on the top of the Empire State Building screaming "The frog is stayin'!". It's sweet, musically brilliant, funny, touching, and belongs in anyone's collection who loves not only the Muppets but great comedy and comedic cameos. Terrific, from start to finish.

Some good parts. Wonderful cameos. Miss Piggy skating through the park is pretty fun. Just isn't 'Muppet Movie.'

Jim Henson’s beloved Muppets crash Broadway in their third screen outing, but can’t find anyone who will agree to put on their show. Forced to separate and find real jobs, trouble arises when Kermit is hit by a car and develops amnesia, but you can be sure that everything will work out in the end. There’s no reason to skip this movie if you appreciate the Muppet oeuvre, all the more so as it was the final Muppet outing before the death of their creator, and the difference is pretty clear. The Muppets are frequently bizarre and occasionally cheesy, but always enjoyable.

Finally got to see the one Muppet filmmthatnhad eluded me. Worth the wait, while its not the best of their movies, it is one of the best. Features the wedding of Kermit & Miss Piggy for those who missed the reference in The Muppets.

Couldn't finish it. Dreadfully boring and forced, and was thus making me deeply sad. The worst of Henson's run, bar none.

It's very strange that I never saw this movie before today. While I did see many of the other movies with the Muppets this one always seem to somehow eluded me. It's a typical Muppets movie, trying to make a show, separation, confusion....still they are so charming you just get taken in with it all. Lot's of cameo in this one, musical numbers and the usual jokes and it make's for some good entertainement, if you like The Muppets of course
