The Notebook
2004 Directed by Nick Cassavetes
Synopsis
Behind every great love is a great story.
An epic love story centered around an older man who reads aloud to a woman with Alzheimer's. From a faded notebook, the old man's words bring to life the story about a couple who is separated by World War II, and is then passionately reunited, seven years later, after they have taken different paths.

I started this movie and 5 minutes in I wanted to punch something, probably my face. I loathe romantic movies. In fact, I can only stomach them if the lead love interest gets eaten by a zombie. It's this sort of tosh that brainwashes women into being utter saps for all the wrong reasons. There is nothing sexy about suffering for a generation just for one snog in the rain...

They fall in love, how sweet, but whoa look out, they can’t be together because of class differences! It’s like one of them is a wizard and the other is a fighter; two complete opposite characters torn apart by the social caste system! Damn you, adversity! And when Noah was at that fancy dinner at Allie's house, all of the rich people were wearing white and he was the only one wearing black! Or was it dark blue? What a deep visual metaphor. Just awe-inspiring. Omg.
Right from the opening scene I knew what was coming. I knew what the big reveal was going to be and I knew I was going to hate this film. Nick Cassavetes wrings the…

The Notebook seems to have a lot of negative attention, predominantly from people who wish to be seen publicly bashing romantic films for the purpose of their own image. - The internet doesn't care if you like romantic films or not. Films are much like music, you watch whatever suits you due to the way in which it makes you feel.
I was in conflict over watching this as I had read the book several times and it is one of my favourites. I think Nick Cassavetes did an amazing job of directing this as having read the book, I can see that it would not have been and easy transition into film.
The story is captivating from the onset.…

One of the best romantic movies ever and my all time favorite. This movie gives you hope that true love does still exist and good things come to those who wait. Noah's love for Allie is amazingly breath taking and something to behold. It proves that two people meant to be together will find a way to be together. Their love story is one that everyone wants to experience.

My ultimate guilty pleasure.
Without the pleasure.
Or the guilt for hating the crap out of it.
Nicholas Sparks is the bane of my existence.

This will make you shit and puke at the same time. In a good way.

Too sentimental and sappy? Aw, pish posh! I love this silly little love story!
-
A romantic story, two leads with great chemistry, and a solid supporting cast. A good movie that would have been even better if they'd left off the Garner/Rowlands "old" angle, and just told it as a straight period story.
