I didn’t cry four times during The Parent Trap, shut up. You cried four times during The Parent Trap. This is a largely wonderful, seriously sentimental family comedy about twins Hayley Mills and Hayley Mills, separated in infancy, who meet by chance at a summer camp and scheme to bring their estranged parents Brian Keith and Maureen O’Hara back together. The special effects are decent (well, except for the bit where Pretend Hayley has to hold an enormous sleeping mat next to her head), the supporting cast of Charlie Ruggles, Una Merkel and Leo G. Carroll is absolutely first-rate and Hayley is just a joy. Only downsides: it runs out of steam with 20 minutes to go, and the ‘Let's Get Together’ song is faddy rubbish. I really like the remake as well.

An enjoyable enough family film that benefits tremendously from the talents of Maureen O'Hara. She sparkles in every scene she's in--too bad she's only in about a third of the movie. The rest of the primary actors are only so so, and while the script leaves a lot to be desired, there are a few moments of silly, kid-oriented fun.

Two twins seperated at birth meet for the first time at summer camp. Susan lives with dad, Sharon lives with mom. They hatch a plan to switch places to get to know their missing parent.
By the way, that's a crappy thing to do as a parent, divorce & each one takes a kid. All is forgiven because the characters are so darn lovable. You can't beat the original, you just can't. So charming. No matter how old I get, I will always love this film. It's funny, it's perfect for the family & it still very much holds up. The special effects that show Hayley Mills together on screen as both Susan & Sharon still look good.
I never fail to get mesmerized by Maureen O'Hara's beauty.

Just the right mix of craziness. Maureen O'Hara and Hayley Mills are perfect in their roles.

Hayley Mills does the twin thing.

Corny Disney fun features Hayley Mills in a double role as twins who switch places to try to convince their estranged parents to get back together. It’s an OK effort that seems rooted in the screwball comedies of the 1930s, especially in its treacly sentimental moments and later as the twins send their father’s gold-digging fiancée packing. But at two hours, it’s really longer than it needs to be.
