More-
Nice comedy with likeable performances from Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly.
Plus another terrible Scottish accent this time from Lily Taylor.

My step-daughter decided to select this film and then promptly talked all over it. I don't think its fair to rate it based on this viewing experience but it might have been ok.
Fucking kids.

A low-key but hilarious look at the rivalry between two supermarket assistant managers. Sean William Scott gives a very subtle performance, far removed from his usual Stifler antics.

John C. Reilly gives a nuanced, nicely melancholic performance while Sean William Scott goes through the entire movie looking like somebody just kicked him in the crotch because I bet that's what he thinks pathos means. Mostly listless mediocrity that's too soft-headed for any of its satire to make contact, but the sweet sadness of Reilly's performance lingers.

Avoiding the pitfalls of formulas is commendable but not enough. "The Promotion" pits Seann William Scott against John C. Reilly as two moderately likable guys fighting for a place as director of a supermarket and one almost expects the confrontation to escalate into some over-the-top duel - or, at least, one of the contenders to come off as the villain and leaving the other as the guy to root for. Neither happens as both protagonists prove to be decent men, only flawed by their own petty ambitions. Lack of a clear (if formulaic) dramatic center ultimately leaves the viewer unsatisfied and uninvolved

I picked this up dirt cheap because it looked like it had potential. Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly?? What's not to love?? I was pleased with my purchase decision.
It's a very subtle movie. That's the only way I can think to describe it. No "in your face" comedy like THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN or films like that. It's a darker humor. Also, I'm sure anyone who's worked in a grocery store would appreciate it even more. I haven't, but I've still had to deal with customers, nutty coworkers, and crappy management. So I can appreciate a lot of this film.

Not exactly life changing, but a nice easy going indie film with a few chuckles here and there.

Not a laugh riot, or a Step brothers clone but a enjoyable enough comedy, with two pleaseing leads from Sean William Scott and John c Riley, as two assistant managers eyeing up a manager position in a new store, some good moments at times and enough gentle laughs to warrant a watch.

Enjoyable enough little comedy that while packed with top talent never quite gets going.
a real shame as it as a great cast including a few of my favourites

Pretty funny as you would expect with these two, if you like them...
