Reviews of The Raid: Redemption 2012

A million dollar version of the bigger budget 13 Assassins? Shot on a Panasonic AF100 on a fig rig! Excellent fight choreography and non-stop action. Action sequences were video storyboarded, cut together and then fine tuned and it shows. Good bonus features on the BluRay.

An all around great action movie.

Let's ignore the fact The Raid's plot is almost paper thin and is essentially a reverse Indonesian take on John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13, Gareth Evans' film is practically a video game come to life: every time the good guys encounter the baddies a fight breaks out. With Tony Jaa off hiding in some temple, Iko Uwais has now stepped to the forefront of the martial arts scene. The guy is a human wrecking ball, running through hallways upon…

This is how action movies should be. It's loud, violent, slick and most importantly, unapologetic and unashamed about being what it is. Redemption is not interested in creating interesting characters, dialogue, or having a real plot that is anything other than an excuse to have over the top action sequences. On paper, this sounds like it might as well be the next Michael Bay film, but there are a few things that set The Raid: Redemption apart from generic action…

Holy crap, now that's what I call an action movie.
If you don't mind mindless violence for 100 minutes The Raid is hugely entertaining.

The Raid: Redemption is breath of fresh air into the action genre. The story in this movie was a bit lame but doesn't detract too much from the entertainment value. In terms of action and violence this movie delivers. It has some of the best fight scenes I've seen in any movie. Some very cool scenes all around. Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. Definitely recommend to anyone who is craving a pure action movie.

The Raid, dude. Simply blown aware by the action present in this. Stuff I've never even seen before, and I'm talking about the "floor-axing" scenes. Everything is just nuts. Story is not all there but I didn't mind. Talking is light so it's not really a big deal that it's foreign. Yeah, Gareth Evans will be on my radar for some time now. Also, I'm not a big fan of martial arts movies, but someone this turned me over with its use of weapons.

Film 13 of The June Challenge
"And don't forget... have fun."
This is possibly one of the most awesome action movies I've seen. People are repeatedly punched, kicked, elbowed and smashed against walls so often that I seriously started to wonder whether this was set in a alternate universe where everyone is actually made of steel. Also, this tops the Bourne trilogy in terms of improvised weapons. Fluorescent light tube, chair, filing cabinet, fridge - it's all there. Then there's…
