Synopsis
An Indian aristocrat Rama Safti (Tyrone Power) returns from medical training in the U.S. to give his life to the poor folk of Ranchipur. Lady Edwina (Myrna Loy) and her drunken artist ex-lover Ransome (George Brent) get in the way, but everyone shapes up when faced by plague, earthquakes and flooding.

A disaster movie from 1939! Even back then they were big sprawling epic films. Based in India, despite having not many (if any) Indian cast members (still playing Indian people though) were are given a great spectacle of its time. After lots of romance set ups and racial boundaries being set up, the rains do indeed come along with an earthquake that breaks a dam. As with San Francisco - the special effects hold up really well - much better than low budget movies of today. Some of the flooding and breaking up of sets are impressive. However after some swimming and rowing around the last third of the movie takes place in a hospital where plague and disease takes…
