[Compare to 1946 version] Definitely not a good movie. After watching this story twice, I can't tell what the story is supposed to be about. Is it the story of Larry's spiritual and meaning of life quest? Is it about Sophie's decent and aftermath? Or is it about Isabel's story of frustrated dreams? In this version, none of those themes comes through very strong. Catherine Hicks is no Gene Tierney and the movie doesn't focus as strongly on Isabel. So that storyline is sabotaged. It seems like the movie wants to be about Larry's quest, but it doesn't come through. There is so much more stuff than just Larry and Bill Murray is horribly miscast in the role. The only…
