The Return of Jafar
1994 Directed by Toby Shelton, Alan Zaslove …
Synopsis
The Aladdin adventure continues...
Aladdin is adjusting to his new life as part of the upper crust. He and Princess Jasmine may not be married yet, but the pressures of palace society have already begun. On top of that, Iago (the parrot pet of Sultan's ex-vizir turned genie, Jafar) appears asking for help and no one is happy to see him. But things begin to look up when Genie returns from his trip around the world. Meanwhile, Jafar's black lamp is discovered by an idiot crook called Abis Mal. By using Abis Mal, Jafar makes his way back to Agrabah with ideas of payback for Aladdin and his friends.

"You'd be surprised what you can live through." A very unusually graphic catchphrase for a children's film, but maybe that's just me.
This sequel was a lot better than what I thought it would be. But saying that, I had pretty low expectations.
The best part of the film had to be the music. Great songs, true the older original in many ways.
The worst part... Iago, Jesus that bird is flipping annoying, and unfortunately, he plays a really big part in The Return of Jafar.

Originally intended as the pilot to the animated series and it shows. Cheap animation - Jasmine in particular looks terrible and is consistently off-model - terrible expository dialogue, and Iago is far too prominent. Did we really need to hear Gilbert Gottfried sing two songs? Still, I like some of the genie stuff in it.

Like many Disney sequels, this film had potential but was not well-executed. The core story was decent, and it was cleaner and more morally sound than the original, but it did not have the polish of the classic film. Therefore, while it's a safe watch, it isn't very memorable.

Não é tão legal. Mas continua engraçadinho.

Neither Elisabeth or I found this movie very good and we both agree that this movie played out more like a Saturday morning cartoon than a quality short film of 66 minutes. We decided to have an Aladdin night and since neither of us had actually seen this, we would give it a go. Elisabeth was a tad more bored with this than I was, wanting to give it a 1 star rating, while my version of a 1 star is turning it off. So, 2 it gets.
