The Road to El Dorado
2000 Directed by Bibo Bergeron, Don Michael Paul
Synopsis
They came for the gold... they stayed for the adventure.
After a failed swindle, two con-men end up with a map to El Dorado, the fabled "city of gold," and an unintended trip to the New World. Much to their surprise, the map does lead the pair to the mythical city, where the startled inhabitants promptly begin to worship them as gods. The only question is, do they take the worshipful natives for all they're worth, or is there a bit more to El Dorado than riches?

One of the movies from my childhood that I enjoyed the most. The story and the characters are absolutely captivating. Funny that it's also one of the main reasons I started to like Ancient History.

What a fantastic piece of animation gold you are!
The colouring in this film are stunning as much as the characters are hilarious. The story is adventurous as well as feeling-twisting.
This was an essential in my childhood and will be for all of eternity. -

The comedy peaks early, but the adventure thrills throughout. Wonderful animation, a great story and charismatic characters with a smart choice in voice casting. A highly enjoyable flick that shows if Dreamworks put their minds to it, they can rival Disney.

Funny movie, but I kinda felt it was inappropriate for children?

Thoroughly entertaining cartoon. Sound track was amazing! Elton John really brought home a great vibe to the film. The dialogue is also very well written.
Was fun to watch when I was a child... And it's still good 13 years on!

The Road to El Dorado was birthed during the period where Dreamworks was still getting started, per say. After releasing the deeply sophisticated Antz and the cult favorite The Prince of Egypt, moviegoers still really had no true idea of what kind of film the company would give them. If Antz was sophistication, then The Road to El Dorado is anarchy - the coherent and easily-lovable kind. Filled with catchy, spur-of-the-moment songs, bright stylistic animation, and an immersing storyline, it majors in the field of uncompromising fun.
The film's lead characters, two extremely hilarious ones, are Miguel and Tulio (voiced by Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline), two con-artists who rig gambling games and deliberately turn the tables on unsuspecting folks…

I was 11 when I saw this movie in theaters and remember loving it. I rewatched it for the first time and it really holds up. I like its humanist themes.
