All I have to say right now is that ending will haunt me for the rest of my life.

That was my first contact with cinema from Argentina and the first thing that came in my mind when I started watching was how easy to understand is their spanish, I've been to Mexico and Spain, and I've seen movies from those countrys and I just couldn't understand a single word they were saying, but I felt that I could watch this one without subtitles. A few minutes after the start, another thing caught my attention. I was paying attention in Irene as she talks to Espósito in some scene, and suddenly I remembered of a girl that I met once in Barcelona, coincidentaly, from Argentina, and they both speaked at the same way. What I didn't know was that…

This incredible film explores what effects being haunted by mistakes made and opportunities missed can have on one's life. And it does so in a very well scripted, beautifully directed and superbly acted violent drama. What makes this film so exceptional is that it effortlessly switches between the mundane (it has these wonderful ' slice of life' moments, which show Argentinian culture at its best and worst) and the philosophical. I would spoil too much when I explain the latter, let's just say it explores the human boundaries of compassion and revenge.
This is a film any lover of intelligent and intense cinema should watch and if you, like I did, allow yourself to be swept away by it, it will stay with you for a long time. -
Nicole took me out for my birthday. Despite our clear enunciation, the cashier gave us tickets for Sex and the City 2. The usher told us it was no big deal, we could just go on in to the room where The Secret in Their Eyes was playing.
I started to protest. I wanted there to be record of us seeing the Argentine film (very good, btw). I didn't want to contribute to Sex and the City's box office. I wondered how many other moviegoers had received tickets to films they weren't attending. This could be common practice, a conspiracy of fraud that goes from the lowliest ticket-taker to the highest executive producer, a manipulation of numbers that ensures--but I saw the way Nicole was looking at me.
I stuffed the Sex and the City 2 tickets in my pocket and we got some goddamned popcorn. -
A truly magnificent film. Deservedly winning the Best Foreign Film Oscar, this Argentinian film looks love, murder, obsession, regret and Argentine history in one of the classiest thrillers in years.

Film 16 for Around the World in May- Argentina
The Secret in Their Eyes is a really nice and engaging films and seems to be a popular choice for this challenge.
The beautifully encompasses two stories which is about the murder of a young woman and the relationship between to co-workers. The way the story is presented, as a retired agent working on hos novel is also an innovative and intelligent way to present a murder mystery.
As is befitting to the title of the film some of the shots really tell more about the story and each characters life/crimes and regrets through their eyes and gives the underlying subtext of loss and retribution.
Though it is a very good…

Another amazing Argentinian movie. Acting, tone, production all superb. But what I liked the most is it's treatment of the thriller genre with none of the characters falling into the classic stereotypes and a story line that spans several decades.

Though it did slow down about two-thirds through, the brilliant and thoughtful performance from Ricardo Darin keeps you hooked till the powerful ending.

Argentinian crime thriller about a former criminal court employee turned writer who wants to write an unsolved rape/murder case that occurred in the 70's. While researching and interviewing he discovers the rampant corruption of justice and cover-up of the incident. A great film that will keep you guessing until the end.

Argentine has the best soccer player in the world, some of the cutest women out there and now I can say they have one of the best spanish-spoken movies.
The Secret In Their Eyes is a mystery movie centered on the life of its main character, and his obsession with the past, instead of the whodunit, which ends up being emotionally dissapointing but artistically fulfilling.
It brings questions about poignant love, morality of the judgamental system, corruption, instead of questions about the case. The ending is pretty cool, I am not going to spoil it, but the line: "Dijiste cadena perpetua" is an emotional punch.
I gotta admit two things: I had a hard time with the sound because the argentinian accent is a little unintelligible for me. Also, everytime someone cries on the movie I caught myself singing "Dont Cry For Me Argentina".

A retired investigator/lawyer (Ricardo Darin as Benjamin) starts writing about a case that profoundly affected him, in which a young woman was brutally murdered and her killer escaped justice. Utilising flashbacks we follow him, his partner a loquacious drunk Sandoval and his superior Irene, through the case and the effects on him in the present day.
Thoughts - It's a pretty slick crime thriller, nothing too innovative but what it does it does well. Darin is good playing the younger and older versions of the character, and a per the title he manages to convey so much just with his eyes. Its filmed in a competent manner at a nice pace. There are some really nice shots though, particularly in…
