As a big fan of the show, this movie always manages to put a smile of my face. There's a gutbusting gag every other second, the animation is actually pretty beautiful, the stakes are raised, there's a lot of heart, and even the smallest supporting characters get their moment to shine. That and Spider-Pig.

The best thing I can say about The Simpsons Movie is that it is exactly like a long episode of the TV series. Unfortunately it feels like a long episode from the post 1990s seasons.

After a hiatus from watching one of the most highly regarded television shows in history, I've recently been revisiting some of the classic episodes of the Simpsons, and after laughing my arse off a few million times, I decided to see how the movie lives up to the show's reputation. Which, albeit, in 2007 had degraded considerably from a weekly event laugh fest, to a hit and miss, silly comedy. But does the film improve on that?
Well, kind of. One thing is, if you look back at seasons 3 through to 13, every episode is incredibly clever. It's amazing how much you can take the piss out of almost everything with only 20 minutes, and be funny. The newer…

It’s always tough to translate a classic TV show into a worthwhile film. Who can forget, for example, the abomination that was The Avengers? In the case of comedies, such a task is made even harder by the fact that it’s very difficult to translate a premise that, at best, covers thirty minutes of time each week. The trouble tends to be – as evidenced by Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story - that the “film” essentially feels like three or four separate episodes that have been cobbled together by a very loose plot. To the credit of all involved in The Simpsons Movie, it is clear that a lot of effort has gone into creating a story that will…

Basically an over long episode of the Simpsons. Meaning that I will always f*cking love this movie.

A good long episode of the Simpsons, with some classic one liners. Won't convert many new fans, but you wouldn't expect it too.
Almost an extra half star just for the opening five minutes when Homer breaks the fourth wall, and, of course, Spider Pig.

It's exactly ok.

Often deliriously funny satire, always entertaining. There's a bit of character development, but it gets lost in the jokes.

An entertaining, breezy, funny good time - exactly what it should be.
