"It must be wonderful to be a prince!"
No, not really. Here is a film that turns the traditional myth of the luxurious life of the royalty on its head. We follow a prince from early age and find out that even though he has all the worldly things in life, he is missing what really makes life worth living, freedom to be a normal human being. He has no children to play with and no chance to just be silly or fall in love with the girl he loves the most.
The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg is both charming and heart wrenching at the same time. There is a wonderful and quite unique aura of melancholia over the whole film. It is so sad but there is something so beautiful in the sadness of the film. Another great drama from Ernst Lubitsch!

And someday I can
brag about seeing all of the
films of Ernest Lubitsch. -
I did NOT see that ending coming. Like, at all.
