Yul Brynner is pretty much the ultimate warrior in the post-apocalyptic New York City of 2012. The movie never really gets better than Brynner's iconic (or it SHOULD be iconic, at least) introduction, standing shirtless, silent, and stock-still above the decrepit future New York, just waiting for the right person to approach him for his services. But it's still a pretty fun ride, and I've added a half-star for the shocking climax in which (SPOILER ALERT) Brynner cuts off his own hand for what attentive viewers will recognize as no reason. He definitely had at least one alternative plan he should have tried first, anyway.

I remembered really liking this as a kid. It's a bit dull, and Brynner waddles his way through some indifferent skirmishes with henchmen straight from Central Casting. Apparently this movie was intended for Gordon Liu to star in, which would have been an entirely different proposition.
Interesting to see how much this movie influenced what was to follow: Day of the Dead, Mad Max II, Escape From New York etc...

pretty decent 70s post-apocalyptic action flick with drifter Yul Bryner joining survivors hold up in an almost desolate NY being looked after by Max Von Sydow. Seen better but definitely worth a look.

Enjoyable post apocalyptic B-movie. Some obvious backlot sets. Economical looking at times, yet effective. Sydow and Brynner are the biggest strength of the film, bringing a believability to their respective characters. Brynner is a lot of fun as a brutal yet sympathetic knife wielding mercenary.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Fairly good bit of post apocalyptic nonsense. Lost my attention halfway through but got me back towards the end. Good to see William Smith on form before he went on to show up in countless TV shows I remember seeing as a kid - Logan's Run, Buck Rogers, Hawaii 5-0, The Fall Guy, ChiPs etc
