I should be watching Django Unchained right now but due to my inability to read the time properly I’m now stuck watching a sappy romance movie at home instead. The schmaltzy high concept romance follows a hopelessly in love couple who have their world torn apart when Paige (Rachel McAdams) loses all memory of her husband, Leo (Channing Tatum), following a highly stylised car accident. Leo then tries to woo her all over again via increasingly banal romantic gestures.
It is a film that solely relies on the easy chemistry of the two would-be lovebirds. Neither are great actors but they can sleepwalk through material as woolly and contrived as this whilst still comfortably being the best things about it.…

Part of Dastardly Difficult December: film nr.95
Things I intend to do after watching the Vow:
- take a motor oil bath
- grow my beard
- go to people's houses and pee in corners
- chop down trees. With my hands.
- wash down steroids with a big glass of testosterone.
- break the speed limit in my car while listening to 'Born to be wild'.
- fry up a beer marinated steak using beer and drench it in a beer sauce, eat it and drink beer.
- write a love letter to mrs. McAdams.
- tear up love letter and curse her succubus ways.
- set stuff on fire.

Every so often you have to bite the bullet and indulge your wife's choice of film for movie night. These little excursions into - what I like to call - the wilderness of 'rom-com' mainstream cinema occasionally offer up a hidden gem, such as LIKE CRAZY. More often they leave you deeply scarred by the harrowing experience of watching something so inept and ill-judged as LOVE AND OTHER IMPOSSIBLE PURSUITS or the equally mawkish LOVE & OTHER DRUGS.
THE VOW, the wife's latest pick, serves up a little bit of both. Inspired by the real-life experiences of Kim Carpenter: a woman who lost all memory of her husband and their marriage together after suffering a terrible head injury.

I had immediately dismissed THE VOW from the moment I first saw the trailer. It seemed insipid to me and disturbingly manipulative. The charming and beautiful, Rachel McAdams, who incidentally starred in the mecca of romantic weepers such as this one, THE NOTEBOOK, gets into a car accident with her handsome husband (Channing Tatum) and forgets she ever knew the man, let alone loved him. It reeked of the dreaded, “Based on the beloved Nichols Sparks novel” to fall below the title, which I usually take to mean I should stay away. So what happened to change my mind and finally see THE VOW? I developed a mad crush on Channing Tatum; that’s what happened. (Thanks a lot, Steven Soderbergh!)…

Based on True story is usually inspiring and beautiful but The Vow is lack of this two meaning. There must be a lot of good parts left in the book, sadly, the Director cared too much on unnecessary "Sweet" times and targets the teenager's mind. Ha!

An unoriginal idea for a cheesy romantic comedy. Certain rom-com's I don't mind. This one is just not good, Tatum can not act dramatically. Avoid.

My absolute favorite love story/romantic movie of all time. Love both these actors, and they actually portray well together. The fact that this is also a true story makes my heart melt. I love watching this on a rainy/snowy day.

¨Life's all about moments, of impact and how they change our lives forever. But what if one day you could no longer remember any of them? ¨
The Vow is a very predictable romantic chick flick, but that doesn't mean it isn't entertaining. I had a good time with this film and was choked up during some of the emotional scenes as well thanks in great part to the two leads, Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. You can`t go wrong with these actors and the chemistry between them is pretty strong. The Vow won't be considered amongst the best romantic films, it might not be very memorable, but it will provide you with an enjoyable hour and a half escape.…

@Camdun_Roar: McAdams falls in love, loses her memory and her beau has to remind her of their life together. This film was better with Gosling 5/10

First off, this is more like fantasy film than a romantic drama: totally unrealistic, yes the movies is "based" on real events but the characters are so fake. The Vow isn’t a bad movie per se but it isn’t a good movie either. It just doesn’t excel anywhere in particular; there isn’t a redeemable aspect of this movie that bumps it into that category where you could recommend it to someone. There aren’t enough funny moments, there is no chemistry between the leads, and the pacing is too slow and uneventful. It is sub-par in every way.

The only way I was going to see this movie was if I was trapped on an airplane with insomnia. And that's what happened.

Dammit! At the end of The Vow, I was sad that she didn't remember her husband rather than the actual "happy" ending, which is quite lame. I liked this film, but the ending was rather disappointing to be honest. Channing Tatum is awesome.

The Vow is sweet and very addictive with its silly love story, the loveable characters and all the cliches everybody loves.
