I could probably make a better movie with my Legos. If you like your fights with a lot of style and no actual fighting, give it a shot. It beats Purgatory. Barely.
Actually, I take it back. Between Purgatory and The Warrior's Way, I choose Purgatory.

NZ taxpayer funded visual excess gives an overly stylised shimmer to this decent (albeit pedestrian) kung-fu Western. Its saved by likable characters and a memorably hedonistic villain. One element remains deeply confusing ... Geoffrey Rush?

Passable at best,
Weak story line but interesting build up. -
Honestly it's just lame and cheesy claptrap - but at the same time it's undeniably awesome to realize Ti Lung and Geoffrey Rush are in the same movie.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

A samurai runs away with a child and hides in an American near-ghost town. Stuff happens, but what you really care about is that yes, you get to see who wins if a cowboy fights a samurai.
The Good: I really like the comic book stylings of this movie. It excuses (or can lead to, depending on your point of view) the over-the-top action, absurdly evil villains, and some of the excesses in acting. Bottom line, this is a throwback Western that looks cool and is a lot of fun.
The Bad: The same things I like about this movie will probably cause many folks to hate it. Also, the movie occasionally stalls when the action abates, and some of…

What a strange, strange film this is. Everything about it is odd, from how highly stylized it is (which wasn't for me), to the cast they put together, to the story itself. Unfortunately the movie is just not engaging at all and in fact is just boring too often. I am surprised it got a wide release but it is no surprise it did not do well at the box office.

Stylized beautiful made comic-book style cross between samurai/western/fantasy. Slowly but deadly paced with a remarkable villain role of Danny Huston who stole the show.

I imagine anybody's tolerance for this film will rest on their tolerance for it's deliberately surreal, slightly comical CGI landscape. I didn't love the film, but I thought it's approach was interesting. It's not quite the "ninjas in a spaghetti western" flick the premise promises, but it's mildly entertaining and has a pretty exciting climax. Danny Huston is a particularly effective villain in this one.

A film that is greater than the sum of its parts, reading as a labor of love and a love of genre. A charming main cast and heavy stylization helps offset the hit-or-miss nature of the digital effects, while a pulp-born plot moves things along in a steady, if predictable way.
