Another colourfully inherent song and dance fest from Jacques Demy. Whilst I didn't enjoy this one as much as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, it does feature some dazling moments of carnival-esque entertainment. Sister's Catherine Deneuve and François Dorléac are heavenly, demonstrating grace and a balanced feminist view of the world. Gene Kelly lights up the screen when the camera is focused on him, yet the dubbing was clearly noticeable in key scenes.
It's clear that Les Demoiselles de Rochefort played a big part in influencing La La Land, I guess if it hadnt have been for that film, I may not have seemed out these Demy musicals that I've become quite smitten by. I guess cinema is contagious.
