Thick as Thieves
Never trust a thief.
A master thief recruits a notorious thief to help him steal two famous Faberge eggs from an impenetrable vault in an effort to pull off one final job and repay his debt to the Russian mob.
Morgan Freeman rarely puts a foot wrong, but this film just didn't work for me. Freeman teams up with Antonio Banderas to rob some Faberge Eggs from a Russian Museum in New York City. Another convoluted plot that has some nice surprises this crime flick was average at best. Mimi Leder has only directed one decent film in her career (Deep Impact) and this wasn't it. Distinctly lacking in tension one of the few highlights was Radha Mitchell in her underwear and a small role from Robert Forster. Tom Hardy also pops up in possibly the tinniest and most pointless role he has had to date. Freeman deserves much better than this and although Banderas was decent the film was a real let-down.
Also known as The Code, there is a lot of charm and fun to be had with this film, but rarely is this little heist thriller as smart as it claims to be. In fact, if you've seen most any modern heist flick then you an predict damn near every twist and turn that this film throws at you. The heist itself isn't nearly as fun as it was made to seem in the build, but it's hard not to love the chemistry that Banderas oozes on screen or the consistent presence of Freeman.
It could have been worse, but it could have been a hell of a lot better.
Dassin, Topkapi y Petrovich
I'm not sure how Morgan Freeman manages to appear in quite so many DTV action movies without being sullied by their taint in the way, say, Bruce Willis has. Seriously, check out the dude's resume. This one is... entirely forgettable, really, though Banderas' latin gigolo routine gets
increasingly hilarious as he gets older and more haggard.
Un veterano ladron recluta a uno joven para que le ayude a robar unos huevos de Faberge. Pequeña historia de robo, policias, ladrones y honor, con actores solventes, una buena directora pero un guion ramplon y topico. Muy floja.
This is the kind of film that you don't invest much effort in and you end up feeling like you spent the last couple of hours being fairly entertained. Needs more Tom Hardy though. Can't get enough of that man.
Sometimes the plot twists that make you go "ooh of course" are the best. Thick as Thieves fits right in there, its actually quite an obvious film but very enjoyable nonetheless.
Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas star as a couple of thieves intent on pilfering some Faberge eggs (an interesting true fact is that Faberge could see that they were heading down a path of business suicide producing beautifully ornate eggs so they decided to start knocking out mass produced aftershave in the form of Brut to keep the loan sharks at bay). Radha Mitchell enters the fray as the Goddaughter of Freeman and as love interest for swarthy Banderas. Predictably, Freeman doesn't approve.
As you'd expect from the people making this film, it's entertaining in a 'just let it wash over you' kind of way. The heist is nothing special but contains all of the requisite parts: casing the joint,…
