an extra star for effort
the ending sort of fell flat and didn't really feel like an ending? but the subject of gender dysphoria and living as a trans* person was more or less well-handled
I'm going to sit here and wait until you make a movie like this and have actual trans* folk in it instead of cis people, Hollywood
don't worry
I've got time -
Felicirty Huffman can act the chops off most in a blink of an eye. This film is entirely hinged on her performance and she smashes it. Playing a man about to change gender to female and is so awkward in everything she does you end up rooting for her muted efforts. Her son's an idiot but you come to like him too in the end, although I wanted to slap him still.
Drinking Game: "This is the voice"
Bottom Line: Felicity Huffman being out of a plastic cock. What more do you want? -
A sensitive treatment of gender dysphoria; well acted, sometimes a little corny, but just like its heroine there's a lot going on under the surface.

I hadn't seen this since the theater, and it didn't quite live up to as great as I remembered, but it's still a tour de force for Felicity Huffman

On the Same Ol’ Road Again…
I’d like to give this one three stars for trying, but the more it stares at me, the more I just plain didn’t like "Transamerica." It was completely underwhelming to me and I lacked any sort of care for the poorly written story and underdeveloped characters. It had hints at something great lying underneath, but pretty much was thorough in failing to convince anything to me.
However, I do give some credit to Felicity Huffman for tackling a very unusual and challenging Oscar nominated role. I feel she is the only thing going for this film, though I must confess that I lacked care for her character about thirty minutes into it.

Felicity Hoffman is outstanding, remarkable even. It's not a matter of bravery in terms of just story but in what is asked of her as an actress. Really brave and skilled. Kevin Zegers is good here too. A great story.
