As with clothes in vintage shops which are actually newly-made, "vintage style" items, I often find new films set in the recent past a little false and disappointing. (“The recent past” in this context, for whatever reason, to me means the 1950′s onwards.) There is a bit of that excess shininess about this trophy but I loved its colourful cartoonish look typical of François Ozon's films. It’s more aesthetically satisfying than a British production which would try and make everything look grimy, when you really can’t replicate that older environment properly on modern film.Visually, camp is the saving grace of Potiche; the actors deliver their lines in a slightly OTT manner which matches … but it’s the discordant…

Het mag geen verbazing heten dat François Ozon een van de meest begiftigde cineasten van het land van Molière is: hij wisselt immers even vaak van genre als u van ondergoed (hopen we) en ondanks het feit dat de Franse snelfilmer zowat elk jaar een film uitbrengt, sneeuwt de kwantiteit de kwaliteit absoluut niet onder. Akkoord, niet al zijn films zijn hoogvliegers, maar ze zijn wel stuk voor stuk interessant, edelmoedige experimenten (‘5X2', ‘Ricky') waarmee de regisseur steeds opnieuw narratieve grenzen aftast. En voor een cineast die in één jaar tijd zowel het rauwe zwangerschapsdrama ‘Le refuge' als de boulevardkomedie ‘Potiche' uitbrengt, kunnen wij niets anders dan respect opbrengen. Toch?

Lightweight but enjoyable. François Ozon is one of my favourite directors because he can jump from things like to this to something as masterful as In The House.

Una auténtica gozada en forma de comedia colorista, alegre y orgullosamente francesa, que reúne a grande iconos vivos de su cine para hacerlos bailar, reír, sufrir, luchar, en una farsa irresisitiblemente simpática y divertida.

Catherine Deneuve es un tesoro del cine y, a sus 68 años, una mujer sumamente atractiva. Ella es el centro de atencion en "Potiche", una simpatica comedia feminista ambientada en los 70s cuyo estilo tambien emula las peliculas de ese tiempo. Para Francois Ozon es una cinta completamente diferente a sus thrillers eroticos como "Swimming Pool".
"Potiche" es muy divertida ya que se nota que su reparto tiene gran quimica (especialmente entre Deneuve y Gerard Depardieu) ademas de que la cinta nos entretiene con su historia de una esposa que tiene que dirigir la empresa de su marido despues de una huelga de los trabajadores. No sera una obra particularmente profunda pero "Potiche" es entretenimiento retro que vale la pena. -
Genuinely heartwarming and hilarious, and at time a little bittersweet. But Catherine Deneuve's performance as a bored, and occasionally vengeful housewife is great, and carries the movie fantastically. It's unfortunately a bit disjointed, and the transitions between time periods is pulled off as seamlessly as it could have been.
