Boasting the best laugh-to-runtime ratio in my library, a heartwarming story, and some of the best improvisation and improv actors I've ever had the pleasure of watching, there is nothing I don't love about Waiting for Guffman. Particularly enjoyable scenes include the play auditions immediately followed by an extremely unexpected and 'probey' account of one of Blaine's (The Stool Capital of the World™ !) alien abductions, and the rundown of Corky's various memorabilia for sale at the end.
I realized tonight that this must be where my insane love of Parks and Recreation and its small town goofballs with hearts of gold and town pride bordering on mania comes from.

"Waiting for Guffman" is my favorite Christopher Guest mockumentary and while I have watched it numerous times I still laugh out loud at each viewing. This movie set a formula for many of his movies to follow: unscripted with a hilarious cast creating memorable characters, a bevy of quotable lines and a couple fun tunes. I highly recommend it.
Guest does not mock his characters or their desire to create a production that will capture the attention of a Broadway critic. Instead, he celebrates them. Fred Willard, Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey and Guest himself are hilarious and throw themselves into their roles.
I saw this movie at the theater with a bunch of friends and thankfully everyone was laughing as we were pretty obnoxious. After, when I told one "I hate you and I hate your ass-face" we all laughed while our waiter just stared.
Here's to Blaine, the stool capitol of the world!

This movie gets funnier every time I watch it. "I was out shopping for my wife, Bonnie...I buy all her clothes..."

One of the wonderful Christopher Guest films. I'm not sure there's much to say about it; if you enjoy his brand of filmmaking, I think you'll really like this. If it doesn't work for you, I don't think this is going to be the film to change your mind.

Very, very funny Christopher Guest comedy. It borders on being painful because of how accurately it skewers this specific niche of theater people, but the cast is so great that you sympathize with them, even if they are kind of sad and pathetic.

Despite seeing quite a few films like this I've actually not ever seen Spinal Tap; should be on my watch list.
This is Christophers Guest's spoof documentary that tracks the hilarious enthusiasm and weird dedication of a group of amateur thespians in the the making of a musical in celebration of the anniversary of their hick town. Guest's character is Corky St Clair; the effeminate and prissy master of ceremonies; there is also a whole host of other characters including a eccentric and awkward dentist, a skinny ex-Dairy Queen waitress, and a 'kooky' and 'pushy' Mr and Mrs duo. [oh and a nice cameo from David Cross]
Its not a ridiculous laugh out loud funny all the way through but…

Guest at his best - possibly my favourite one of his.

Amazing. Funny. I laughed until I cried. And, seriously, the Parker Posey monologue from the special features is the funniest part of the movie. I always forget just how amazing it is, until I re-watch it and nearly cry from laughing.

Like all of this troupes' movies, I could only muster a smile for its laughs

This was just delightful. Christopher Guest mockumentaries never cease to amuse.
