This film had the amazing ability to have nothing happen at the same time as lots happening. I don't know how they pulled it off.
Trundled along at an average pace. At least there was no "filler". Just wasn't much to talk about. -
This is my kind of action film. A former wrestler with no business on the big screen taking names and whooping some bald-headed double-studded candy ass. The Rock and Knoxville have great chemistry, who did pretty well for themselves as two men who forced their way onto the scene from their own projects, i would have watched a whole series with them. This is a simple fun film, it's shallow and there's not much else here, but it's that.

The Rock and Johnny Knoxville go up against Neal McDonough in a small mid-west town. I always liked this film but feared it might not be as good as I remembered it. I was right. It's not.
It's still fun in places; more like a Western than most action films I've seen too. The Rock (who makes everything better and was still calling himself The Rock when this was made) plays the old-soldier who returns to his home town to find it ruled by a corrupt casino. He becomes the sheriff and takes on the owner. This could've been a John Wayne script for all I knew.
The action is fast and frequent, the characters a bit shallow but it's not really a problem in such a short film. Knoxville is ok, The Rock is better. It's not as fun as Welcome To The Jungle but it's.. fine.. not bad.. ok.

Meh it's ok

At 74 minutes it's not boring and while the fight scenes are fun there's not a whole lot to substantiate the whole thing.
With a decent of cast of familiar faces to support him Johnson does fine in his second film and well I'm a bit biased he is a good actor. While not as as good as his performance in Gridiron gang he does some fine ok work here.
As short as it is it's really made for after a drunken night out.
and if your gonna steal hacksaw's gimmick you could at least shout HOOOOOOOO!!!! when beating the shit out of people with a 2x4. 5 stars if that happened

Sometimes I want to find a movie that is just fun. It doesn't matter that the plot is implausible and has more holes than a giant Swiss cheese. It has to just be enjoyable.
Welcome to Walking Tall, which is a glossy remake of a 1973 movie that amazingly was a based on a true story.
Coming home to find his town now a festering pit of gambling and drugs, with the locals under the thumb of old school friend gone bad Jay Hamilton, special forces veteran Chris Vaughn (The Rock) takes on the local hoodlums who now control the town.
Cue lots of tough talking, WWE posturing and stares, wise-cracking baddies and good ole fashioned Smokey and the Bandit…

Rock gonna Rock!
Pretty dumb movie set in a backwoods town, but Neil McDonough as a sassy bad guy? Rock beating people with bare hands and cedar? Sign me up!
Knoxville was a bit of a letdown though, not a fan of his.
I also gave myself kudos points for instantly realizing that the "hot girl in the Porsche" was none other than Cobie Smulders. Her first film appearance, and pre-HIMYM.

Before last night, never really saw this film in its entirety and from what little I had seen playing on TV, I had thought that it would be bad. That is not the case though and even though the critics had slammed the film, I found it to be quite an entertaining action flick and till date the best performance from Dwayne The Rock Johnson and it shows that the guy can act.

The Rock hits people, occasionally with a 2x4. What's not to like?

I didn't know this went under a different name, I know it as 'Walking Tall'.
I've seen it a few times, but this is the first time I watched it with Audio-Commentary from The Rock, the commentary is often quite generic, but you can hear that he is chilling out and having a laugh, its fun and he seems like such a genuinely nice guy.
This is based on a true story, which is quite shocking thinking about, but also very heroic as he takes back his town kicking all sorts of ass. -
Really tall

I don't think a lot of people would say this movie is "good" but I really enjoy it. I think you have to like The Rock to tolerate a half baked action movie like this though.
