Doormat Wesley Gibson discovers that his recently murdered father -- who Wesley never knew -- belonged to a secret guild of assassins. After a leather-clad sexpot drafts Wesley into the society, he hones his innate killing skills and turns avenger.
This film is one of the most ridiculously awesome things I have ever seen. And yes, that does include Shoot 'Em Up. Seriously, this is just brilliant. There's people curving bullets, people flipping cars then shooting people whilst still in said car, exploding rats and Angelina Jolie.
And I never though the day would come when I started measuring movie badassness on the merits of a character played by James McAvoy.
An adrenaline filled film, with a great performance from James McAvoy. It's just absolute fun, great cast, explosive soundtrack and entertaining action sequences.
When you think about truly entertaining "popcorn movies" of recent years, Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted fits the bill pretty well. Another comic-book adaptation to get the big screen treatment, this was as fast-paced as action films got back in 2008.
James McAvoy plays a downtrodden office worker who's life is passing him by. Bullied at his job, and derided by his cheating girlfriend, he suffers panic attacks as he struggles just to get through the day. His life though is about to change after he meets the stunning Angelina Jolie in a late night pharmacy who informs him that his father was an expert assassin and that his killer is now hunting him. That's the premise here, McAvoy is asked to…
I am for watching this film for a little while and I read some bad comments about it and I can't understand why all of the hate!? This film is totally cool! It has the most crazy impossible action scenes but all were awesome to watch! I had a lot of "wow" moments and it was a pure and good entertainment thriller from beginning to end!
James McAvoy passes from idiot to badass and he did a great job, again! He is a versatile actor and I really admire him. Angelina Jolie plays the type of character that is always perfect for her, so she was great too. Well and Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman.
For me this is definitely worth watching and I had a lot of fun!
"What the fuck have you done lately?.."
Exceptionally filmed scenes of exceptional action!
Not as dark as the graphic novel but still packs a bloody punch.
McAvoy proves he can be an A list star and Jolie finally brings out the superstar card she'd always threatened.
And she also shows her exceptional back side.
0% logic. 100% awesome.
Also, Morgan Freeman saying "shoot this motherfucker."
I have no idea if there was something to "get", but if there was, I definitely did NOT "get" it. At all.
Its just being bloody for the bloody sake of being bloody.
Wanted is a film that earned a somewhat divisive reaction upon its 2008 release. Some people scoffed at Timor Bekmambetov's over-the-top action sequences and occasionally-wacky plot elements in his adaptation of the Mark Millar comic book, while others found a high level of appreciation in the movie's pure dedication to those very elements. My opinion falls firmly in the latter. Similar to 2014's Lucy, Wanted is a film where you can either accept the premise--that a group of assassins can alter physics and take contracts based on a mystical loom with a connection to fate--or you can't. If you can't accept that premise than the film…
A young man finds out his long lost father is an assassin. When his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father's old organization and trained by a man named Sloan to follow in his dad's footsteps.
A lot more fun that i remembered, Wanted is not as dumb as it seem, it looks good, the action is really nice and has decent acting from people that belong in better movies than this, and that may be very important the acting and in some parts the writng save wanted from being truly bad.
This movie main attraction is how over the top it is, the set pieces are quite fun, even if they challenge every law of physics.…
You can try and make me feel bad for loving Wanted as much as I do but idc lol :)
Not quite as good as I remember, but still a lot of fun.
James McAvoy is a good-looking Scottish dude, but I'd hate to say that whenever I think about this movie, the first images that come to my head are of ones where his pale, translucent face is in slow motion and it looks as if his mouth is running away from his head. It's also a shame to see Angelina Jolie's personality depreciated from her character, as borrowing any quirks from her Girl, Interrupted or even Mr. and Mrs. Smith roles would have made this movie more fun. Instead, vague opinions about the Nietzschean abyss and destiny shadowed over what could have been a fun dynamic between the cast.
