Doormat Wesley Gibson discovers that his recently murdered father -- who Wesley never knew -- belonged to a secret guild of assassins. After a leather-clad sexpot drafts Wesley into the society, he hones his innate killing skills and turns avenger.
An adrenaline filled film, with a great performance from James McAvoy. It's just absolute fun, great cast, explosive soundtrack and entertaining action sequences.
This film is one of the most ridiculously awesome things I have ever seen. And yes, that does include Shoot 'Em Up. Seriously, this is just brilliant. There's people curving bullets, people flipping cars then shooting people whilst still in said car, exploding rats and Angelina Jolie.
And I never though the day would come when I started measuring movie badassness on the merits of a character played by James McAvoy.
When you think about truly entertaining "popcorn movies" of recent years, Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted fits the bill pretty well. Another comic-book adaptation to get the big screen treatment, this was as fast-paced as action films got back in 2008.
James McAvoy plays a downtrodden office worker who's life is passing him by. Bullied at his job, and derided by his cheating girlfriend, he suffers panic attacks as he struggles just to get through the day. His life though is about to change after he meets the stunning Angelina Jolie in a late night pharmacy who informs him that his father was an expert assassin and that his killer is now hunting him. That's the premise here, McAvoy is asked to…
I am for watching this film for a little while and I read some bad comments about it and I can't understand why all of the hate!? This film is totally cool! It has the most crazy impossible action scenes but all were awesome to watch! I had a lot of "wow" moments and it was a pure and good entertainment thriller from beginning to end!
James McAvoy passes from idiot to badass and he did a great job, again! He is a versatile actor and I really admire him. Angelina Jolie plays the type of character that is always perfect for her, so she was great too. Well and Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman.
For me this is definitely worth watching and I had a lot of fun!
"What the fuck have you done lately?.."
Exceptionally filmed scenes of exceptional action!
Not as dark as the graphic novel but still packs a bloody punch.
McAvoy proves he can be an A list star and Jolie finally brings out the superstar card she'd always threatened.
And she also shows her exceptional back side.
This one came way out of left field. With no desire to see it on the big screen, "Wanted" languished on my queue for a few months before finally being shipped to my mailbox. I had a blast! It’s one of the best-looking movies I’ve seen in a long time, the plot was so insane that it really worked, the camera-work was astounding and Angelina’s lips never looked sexier. The film surprised me from beginning to end.
this is an amazing movie! the concept is really nice and i didn't get bored till the end! :p
The suspension of disbelief required to enjoy this film was on a whole other level, but all of that aside, it did OK. The soundtrack hasn't aged well, and the use of slow motion kind started to grate after a while, but McAvoy and Jolie played their parts well, so I guess I'd recommend this to anyone who is really keen on either of them, and doesn't mind a totally ridiculous action film.
A great action flick with an interesting hook, unfortunately almost ruined atmospherically by a dated and abrasive soundtrack. |
3.5/5 if the licensed songs weren't so obnoxious.
To movies what the X Games is to sports. If you enjoy movies where something stupid happens in slow motion, then you get a shot of a random passerby remarking on how bad-ass it was, then maybe this will be your cup of tea. Star Lord is present in a minor role as a schlub.
Still a decent action film despite the gimmicky usage of slowmo and such. James McAvoy is always great to watch.
James McAvoy has a "Fuck You" keyboard.
This is a guilty pleasure. A ridiculous, and at times retarded film, but so much fun to watch. Jolie is great as always, and McAvoy proves his badassery in a way I never thought imaginable. No Mr. Tumnus, no.
A silly but enjoyable action film if you don't take it seriously. James McAvoy impresses in the lead and certainly has a way with guns, as does Angelina Jolie and the rest on their team. If you can get past the unique kind of gun play in this movie, it's fun.
Really fun movie.
James McAvoy is a loser who seemingly has the power to bend bullets in this enjoyable Matrixesque yarn from Timur Bekmambetov.
