Doormat Wesley Gibson discovers that his recently murdered father -- who Wesley never knew -- belonged to a secret guild of assassins. After a leather-clad sexpot drafts Wesley into the society, he hones his innate killing skills and turns avenger.
An adrenaline filled film, with a great performance from James McAvoy. It's just absolute fun, great cast, explosive soundtrack and entertaining action sequences.
This film is one of the most ridiculously awesome things I have ever seen. And yes, that does include Shoot 'Em Up. Seriously, this is just brilliant. There's people curving bullets, people flipping cars then shooting people whilst still in said car, exploding rats and Angelina Jolie.
And I never though the day would come when I started measuring movie badassness on the merits of a character played by James McAvoy.
When you think about truly entertaining "popcorn movies" of recent years, Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted fits the bill pretty well. Another comic-book adaptation to get the big screen treatment, this was as fast-paced as action films got back in 2008.
James McAvoy plays a downtrodden office worker who's life is passing him by. Bullied at his job, and derided by his cheating girlfriend, he suffers panic attacks as he struggles just to get through the day. His life though is about to change after he meets the stunning Angelina Jolie in a late night pharmacy who informs him that his father was an expert assassin and that his killer is now hunting him. That's the premise here, McAvoy is asked to…
I am for watching this film for a little while and I read some bad comments about it and I can't understand why all of the hate!? This film is totally cool! It has the most crazy impossible action scenes but all were awesome to watch! I had a lot of "wow" moments and it was a pure and good entertainment thriller from beginning to end!
James McAvoy passes from idiot to badass and he did a great job, again! He is a versatile actor and I really admire him. Angelina Jolie plays the type of character that is always perfect for her, so she was great too. Well and Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman.
For me this is definitely worth watching and I had a lot of fun!
"What the fuck have you done lately?.."
Exceptionally filmed scenes of exceptional action!
Not as dark as the graphic novel but still packs a bloody punch.
McAvoy proves he can be an A list star and Jolie finally brings out the superstar card she'd always threatened.
And she also shows her exceptional back side.
this is an amazing movie! the concept is really nice and i didn't get bored till the end! :p
Totally inspired by Fightclub.
La pelicula en donde Angelina Jolie (o su cara) solamente dice 5 palabras.
La primer mitad esta muy muy bien, la segunda afloja bastaaaante, pero McAvoy esta en mi lista de gente simpatica, asi q todo bien.
Russian NIGHT WATCH and DAY WATCH auteur Timur Bekmambetov made his Hollywood debut with this hyper-stylized adaptation of Mark Millar and J.G. Jones' comic book series. It's quite toned down from its source, but with bullet curving, Angelina Jolie driving a car into a speeding train, Morgan Freeman yelling "Shoot *THIS* motherfucker!" and a nice helping of misanthropic humor, it remains goofy fun.
Remember when this came out and Bekmambetov was supposed to be the next great Hollywood mega-budget genre guy? So far, he co-produced the underrated animated film 9 and a couple of terrible horror movies (APOLLO 18 and THE DARKEST HOUR), and directed ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, which I completely forgot about (as has the rest of America,…
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This is the final word in the "gun-fu"-genre. Russian visionary Timur Bekmambetov "outwoos" John Woo in this ultraviolent stylish actioner with star power.
Don´t expect any logic or binding laws of physics here, you are entering a world in which bullets can fly curves and people can shoot of the wings of a fly.
Just a whole lot of brainless fun, full of great special FX, like all of Bekmambetovs movies. Love it or hate it, there´s no right way. :)
Its an entertaining movie about a league of Assassins. James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman are a stellar cast but the film isn't anything to shout about.
I just love that movie.
True story: When I went to see it in the theatre back in 2008, once the movie was over, I went back into the theatre and booked the next showing. Yep. Only time I have done this, ever.
Of course it is not perfect, some might say that it is a bad movie, I don't know. I just adore it. Action, almost a superpowers vibe, sassiness, James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie. It's always such a joy rewatching it and being amazed by the action scenes, the dialogues and Danny Elfman's music every time.
Look for it for Forgotbusters
I hated this. It was so over stylized, so lifted from better movies and so ridiculous. I WANTED this to end. Just an expensive piece of pretentious garbage. Oh and a twist that you see coming a mile away.
Lots of action, kind of boring. Basically The Matrix with a little Fight Club sprinkled in. Hardly follows the comic series.
