Doormat Wesley Gibson discovers that his recently murdered father -- who Wesley never knew -- belonged to a secret guild of assassins. After a leather-clad sexpot drafts Wesley into the society, he hones his innate killing skills and turns avenger.
An adrenaline filled film, with a great performance from James McAvoy. It's just absolute fun, great cast, explosive soundtrack and entertaining action sequences.
This film is one of the most ridiculously awesome things I have ever seen. And yes, that does include Shoot 'Em Up. Seriously, this is just brilliant. There's people curving bullets, people flipping cars then shooting people whilst still in said car, exploding rats and Angelina Jolie.
And I never though the day would come when I started measuring movie badassness on the merits of a character played by James McAvoy.
When you think about truly entertaining "popcorn movies" of recent years, Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted fits the bill pretty well. Another comic-book adaptation to get the big screen treatment, this was as fast-paced as action films got back in 2008.
James McAvoy plays a downtrodden office worker who's life is passing him by. Bullied at his job, and derided by his cheating girlfriend, he suffers panic attacks as he struggles just to get through the day. His life though is about to change after he meets the stunning Angelina Jolie in a late night pharmacy who informs him that his father was an expert assassin and that his killer is now hunting him. That's the premise here, McAvoy is asked to…
I am for watching this film for a little while and I read some bad comments about it and I can't understand why all of the hate!? This film is totally cool! It has the most crazy impossible action scenes but all were awesome to watch! I had a lot of "wow" moments and it was a pure and good entertainment thriller from beginning to end!
James McAvoy passes from idiot to badass and he did a great job, again! He is a versatile actor and I really admire him. Angelina Jolie plays the type of character that is always perfect for her, so she was great too. Well and Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman.
For me this is definitely worth watching and I had a lot of fun!
"What the fuck have you done lately?.."
Exceptionally filmed scenes of exceptional action!
Not as dark as the graphic novel but still packs a bloody punch.
McAvoy proves he can be an A list star and Jolie finally brings out the superstar card she'd always threatened.
And she also shows her exceptional back side.
this is an amazing movie! the concept is really nice and i didn't get bored till the end! :p
this stupidity shoul not exist.
Here's the thing with Wanted, it's based off of the comics but I haven't read any of them, so the first time I watched this I was quite surprised when it was like an insane action film. Everything from an adrenaline Rush being able to slow even the fastest things to running through a hallway at super speed destroying everything and then jumping out a window and not dying, to curving bullets. Wanted is about Wesley (James McAvoy), a person that's life just isn't going for him, he hates his job, he hates his boss and his girlfriend is cheating on him with his best friend. So when Angelina Jolie shows up and saves him from an assassination attempt, his…
It was hard for me to know hwo to rate this because I kept comparing it to the comic book and it didn't really match up. The effects and cinematography in the beginning was spectacular (through the initial car chase), but the rest of the movie couldn't keep up the pace. It ended pretty well, but, again, very different from the comic. If I had seen the movie first, I probab;y would have given it 3 1/2 stars. James McAvoy makes a good "unlikely action hero."
WANTED is an absurdly over-the-top film, but all the better for it. Its interesting storyline, surprisingly deep characters, awesome action sequences, great sense of self-awareness, and incredibly bizarre yet very cool visual style make it a solid action movie that had me fairly engaged. I'm really shocked at how much I enjoyed this film.
In this action film, people can curve bullets.
If that's not your thing, walk away from this. But you would be missing one hell of a fun ride. Filled with CGI-crazed action scenes, it is that kind of movie that just works, because all of the absurd environment is explained enough so you can relax and enjoy it.
And be aware that once established that people can curve bullets, no Other shot on the film goes on a straight line.
Over the top action movie. Entertaining but mostly unbelievable.
Utter cheese, but juuuust gets away with it.
Not much truth in advertising with that title...
For the first thirty minutes or so, Wanted is actually a pretty enjoyable ride. The premise is an interesting one and the actors are engaging on screen. Once James McAvoy's Wesley becomes engrossed in the world of the Fraternity, however, the film takes a sharp turn south, devolving into a generic action picture rather quickly.
Which is a shame because the premise does hold some degree of promise. Its sad that a film which could have gone in so many directions instead decides to go the generic route, storyline wise. It doesn't help that the actors are merely there collecting a paycheck. Wesley is an everyman protagonist who, I think, is supposed…
Yeah the movie is outrageous but it's still so much fun! James McAvoy looks like he had so much fun playing the main character and just kicking ass throughout the whole film while Angelina Jolie mostly just kick his ass. Morgan Freeman is okay in the movie but he isn't my favorite part about it. In the little screen time Chris Pratt gets he's really funny. The action parts were awesome but the story is weak but overall this is still a very watchable popcorn flick.
