Doormat Wesley Gibson discovers that his recently murdered father -- who Wesley never knew -- belonged to a secret guild of assassins. After a leather-clad sexpot drafts Wesley into the society, he hones his innate killing skills and turns avenger.
An over the top crazy, insane out of its mind action film with a really good performance from James McAvoy, I have come up with a new word to describe a film FUF that's what wanted is, FUF stands for fucked up fun.
This film is one of the most ridiculously awesome things I have ever seen. And yes, that does include Shoot 'Em Up. Seriously, this is just brilliant. There's people curving bullets, people flipping cars then shooting people whilst still in said car, exploding rats and Angelina Jolie.
And I never though the day would come when I started measuring movie badassness on the merits of a character played by James McAvoy.
An adrenaline filled film, with a great performance from James McAvoy. It's just absolute fun, great cast, explosive soundtrack and entertaining action sequences.
When you think about truly entertaining "popcorn movies" of recent years, Timur Bekmambetov's Wanted fits the bill pretty well. Another comic-book adaptation to get the big screen treatment, this was as fast-paced as action films got back in 2008.
James McAvoy plays a downtrodden office worker who's life is passing him by. Bullied at his job, and derided by his cheating girlfriend, he suffers panic attacks as he struggles just to get through the day. His life though is about to change after he meets the stunning Angelina Jolie in a late night pharmacy who informs him that his father was an expert assassin and that his killer is now hunting him. That's the premise here, McAvoy is asked to…
I am for watching this film for a little while and I read some bad comments about it and I can't understand why all of the hate!? This film is totally cool! It has the most crazy impossible action scenes but all were awesome to watch! I had a lot of "wow" moments and it was a pure and good entertainment thriller from beginning to end!
James McAvoy passes from idiot to badass and he did a great job, again! He is a versatile actor and I really admire him. Angelina Jolie plays the type of character that is always perfect for her, so she was great too. Well and Morgan Freeman is Morgan Freeman.
For me this is definitely worth watching and I had a lot of fun!
"What the fuck have you done lately?.."
Exceptionally filmed scenes of exceptional action!
Not as dark as the graphic novel but still packs a bloody punch.
McAvoy proves he can be an A list star and Jolie finally brings out the superstar card she'd always threatened.
And she also shows her exceptional back side.
Such a ridiculous film, but it knows it, and that makes all the difference. If you can't accept what this thing is throwing at you in the first 10 minutes you won't enjoy any of it, but if you go along for the ride, it has some pretty fun moments. The McAvoy rat attack toward the end is probably the highlight, featuring some seriously kick ass choreography and gun play.
Film #12 of the "Scavenger Hunt 2" Challenge!
Task #23: A film about an Assassin
What an awesome film. Slow beginning does have a rewarding ending. This movie kicks a lot of ass. Also, great twist there in the middle.
I feel like somewhere in this Matrix-clone is a great action movie. As it is, it's merely a good way to pass two hours.
Angelina Jolie really, really, really needs a sandwich in this movie.
I love the beginning of this movie but the quality drops off pretty fast once the training montages start. And I really don't like the twist. This could have been a great movie but I think too many writers got involved and mucked it up. Great beginning though.
The first time I watched Wanted I loved it, after rewatching it I'm a little less fond of it. It's high on thrills but lacks a compelling storyline, while it's action sequences make sure to be as ridiculous and fun as possible, the plot is a cliched and a boring mess. Also while I am a huge fan of James McAvoy's work, his character here is really irritating and the amount of times he screams like an idiot is insane.
I love how ridiculous the set pieces are, it's just a shame that the plot and characters are extremely mediocre.
A good film, James McCavoy gave a good performance and the plot was interesting.
I liked it more than the trailer would've led me to believe I would. And while the action sequences were often as overly stylish as I had expected, the director kept me distracted from its flashier derivations with some creative R-rated violence, a collection of cool characters and a couple of neat plot twists near the end that actually made the film a bit more substantive than I thought I'd give it credit for. And after this, I think James McAvoy could officially be called a Hollywood made man, if he hadn't already, prior to his X-Men prequel run. Action (Wanted/X-Men), thriller (Last King Of Scotland) or drama (Atonement), this guy was here to stay, and his performance here as the meek accountant-turned-super assassin is a fun display of toughness and charisma. And did I mention Angelina Jolie's delightful butt cheeks glistening loudly and proudly? Now I have. You'll wish you were a towel.
Kinda ridiculous in a good action-y way.
Not another list of the last five Marvel movies, but an attempt at creating The Superhero List To End All…
