Wow. What a film. No matter how many times I watch it I can never seem to get tired of it. Even though the Ultimate cut is 215 minutes long, I felt the same way Jon feels about time when I watch this film. Time simply flies. I have heard a lot of people say that the director’s cut is way too long, but I tend to disagree. I think the 3 hour long edition is the best way to experience the film in its full glory and get deeper into the skin of each and every character and also get to watch the Black Freighter.
The best way to review this film would be to review each and every…

Toby's Journal - Eighteenth November, Two-Thousand-and-Twelve:
Realised Watchmen was on. Even though I won't be watching all of it, I decided to finally review it. Finally. Using this gimmick. Deal with it.
Not sure where to start when talking about this. Should probably state that I'm not one of those who thinks this is an insult to the comic. Stays faithful to the source material whilst still being it's own film. The cinematography is perfect for the film's tone. Bleak. Desolate. But still beautiful in it's own way. The cast manage to capture the characters' personalities perfectly. Jackie Earle Haley being the standout. Amazing soundtrack too. Helps to make the film just that much better. Also, opening montage sets up…

I think living in the U.K. the whole comic-book phenomenon is a niche market than can pass most people by. Numerous movies have portrayed comic book obsession on the U.S. side of the water and it remains a staple of American life.
So "Watchmen" was another of these graphic novels that had unfortunately never crossed my path. I think after reading a lot of reviews from "fan-boys" that maybe it was lucky that I went into this movie blind and without any preconceptions of how it would reflect the source material. I must say though I was really impressed with both the story and the visuals. Zack Snyder cut his teeth with high-tech blue screen technology on "300" and used… -
No film takes a giant shit on its source material like Zach Snyder’s Watchmen. Not even Daredevil completely disrespects its comic book origins as much as Watchmen does.
In this review, I plan to go over where the film simply fails as an adaptation, and therefore as a film itself. I can’t go over everything, as that would take too much time. Instead, I’ll go over the major points that bother me.
Introduction:
I was an impressionable teenager when I read Watchmen back in 2002. Back then, it absolutely blew me away. I took my time over several years to dissect everything about it and just what exactly made it work.
Well what made Watchmen work? Well, it managed to…

I would have give it five stars, but a bit too much blue cock.

A very underrated movie. I feel the naysayers have been much more vocal, most of this is due for their love of the source material in which the film strays from a bit. Don't listen to the fan boys, Watchmen is one ofthe best comic/graphic novel adaptations ever. Great film.

I find film in its modern form to be quite bullying. It spoon-feeds us, which has the effect of watering down our collective cultural imagination.
This was alright. Not amazing, but serviceable. Given the scope and all, I think it's pretty impressive they got something this good. If you don't have time to read the comic, then it should give some idea of why people get excited by it; if you already like the comic, then this is a fun interpretation.
I found this comparison afterwards, which I pretty much agree with (although she's a bit more enthusiastic about the film than me): www.avclub.com/articles/book-vs-film-watchmen,24746/

The single greatest comic book adaption. For better or worse.
Rorschach's Journal. October 12th, 1985: Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll whisper "no."

I don't think it's possible for a director to miss the point of the source material any harder than Zack Snyder did with Watchmen.
