I came for dopey young Ethan Hawke and I got exactly that + a wholesome wolfdog story ❤
I wasn't feeling well so I got cozy on my couch and put on White Fang. I love this movie. It's one of the comfiest films I know and to me it's an essential winter movie. Every year when it's cold outside and the heaters are running it's time for this movie.
It offers gorgeous shots of icy landscape accompanied by a great soundtrack, a lot of animal action and a heart warming story of a boy who tries to find his fathers fortune and meets a new lifetime friend in form of a wolf/dog hybrid. Absolutely loving this film.
Back in 2015, when I first saw it, I fell in love with the film and became a huge fan of Jed the Wolfdog. However, based on what I just re-watched now, it's a decent and cute movie with well-designed settings and a nice atmosphere to enjoy on a snowy day. I wish the journey between the boy and the dog had been longer, though. The ending is simple, yet it brought tears to my eyes.
All in all, it's a pretty good movie, and Jed adds to its enjoyability. Fun fact: Jed was also in The Thing (1981), making the dog transformation scene one of the scariest ever.
First viewing: January 18, 2015. Originally rated 5 stars.
White Fang is a boisterous, faithful and exciting movie adaptation of Jack London's classic story of a boy and his half dog/half wolf and their escapades in the Yukon during the gold rush.
It's nothing new, in fact the story is similar to many movies, it's the way this one was expertly crafted, filmed and presented that made it a success and stand out.
The relationship between Jack and White Fang is believably developed and realized. You buy their connection. The separate stories that then come together give you greater insight into both the boy and White Fang.
There is no fat on this movie, it propels along so steadily, knowing what it must do. Each scene is important and…
I expected White Fang to be a story largely focused on a journey between a boy and a dog. It's not quite that, but it's a fun adventurous romp. Beautiful landscape cinematography and a film that's shot extremely well. The dog fights are unpleasant to sit through, but the film is solid and competently directed.
Oh aren't you a cutie. Yes you are. Yes you are. So cute. So goddamn cute. Awww look at your fuzzy cheekies. What an adorable little boy.
[a wolf pup wanders in]
Hey! HEY! What did I say?! Get the fuck outta here, you little shit!
[returns attention to Ethan]
Oh I'm sorry sweetie. You weren't scared were you? Because you're a brave boy!
Oh to be Ethan Hawke, rolling around in the grass with my wolfdog by the banks of a river before a beautiful Alaskan landscape
i got ethan hawke in suspenders and him playing with a wolf, this movie did not disappoint
