Surprising. A cast that sounds like a stretch on paper, ends up blending very well together. Eisenberg does condescending 18-22 year old as good as anyone, and the same can be said for Melissa Leo's drug-addicted middle-aged mom routine we've seen the past couple years. But in all honesty, Tracy Morgan is the scene-stealer in this one. Genuinely funny and, at times, a well-composed actor in scenes with multiple Academy Award nominees. As far as dark comedies go, this is one of the better ones I've seen this year.

Ja tu domā šo filmu skatīties, please, stop now!
Jesse Eisenberg, why did you do this to me?
Visi varoņi bija samērā kretīniski un nevienam negribējās just līdzi.

Where it works, it really works. Where it fails, it's still sorta okay. This is the best I've seen Jesse Eisenberg. I really wish Tracy Morgan was this good on 30 Rock. Full review at Next Projection.

I'm unsure why this movie got such lousy reviews by the majority of people on here. This movie didn't try to outdo it self or be something it wasn't. It was smart, charming and the characters were believable and lovable. Jesses Eisenberg played a typical character for him but that is okay with me... he does it really well.
I thought the sub-plot with the civil war reenactment was unnecessary but didn't bother me too much. And as one other reviewer said, the chemistry between Tracy Morgan and Jesse Eisenberg had the potential to be a disaster but worked quite well I thought.

Why stop now?
Because if you don't, Mr Eisenberg, I will find you and hurt you. Horrible shit altogether. Can he not do anything aside from playing himself?
The same goes for Tracy Morgan, who, I must admit, I found funny when I came across him first (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and 30 Rock), but whose schtick has well and truly worn thin.
Is there such a thing as rehab for actors who consistently appear in terrible films? There should be. I think that bad things should happen to Jesse Eisenberg on his way to actor rehab. Soon. It'd be one of the only Jesse Eisenberg films I'd enjoy.

One of the most frustrating films I've ever had to endure in my life. Characters scramble around maniacally from place to place desperately in search of a plot, but never find it. Awkward attempts to introduce dark themes and romance jostle for a position with rambling humour that's like nails on a chalkboard throughout. Eisenberg is exactly the same character he always is, as is Tracy Morgan, while Melissa Leo plays the neurotic, drug addicted mother like someone is pointing a gun at her. What you would imagine the climax of the film to be is dealt with in the first half, leaving little reason for any of it to exist. This is the absolute worst kind of film making there is.

I had seen this at the video store a few times and thought it looked like horrible casting so I never rented it. Well it was on cable and I didn't see the DVD cover and ended up giving it a shot forgetting what it was. It turned out a lot better than I thought and there is surprisingly some funny parts too. But really it's not that good of a movie over all. Jesse is kind of a prick throughout the movie and a lot of it seems just thrown together quickly. Not bad for a casual watch while doing something on your computer so don't expect too much.

The problem isn’t that it’s bad, it’s just not funny, minus a few great moments from Tracy Morgan.

I really like Jesse Eisenberg, I often times enjoy Tracy Morgan, and Melissa Leo is solid. so obviously this was meant to be terrible. One of the credited writers also wrote Philadelphia with Hanks and Denzel - so yeah, he has seen better days.

This movie was a chore to get through. All three of the leads are SO unlikable. You constantly want to slap every one of them across the face to mellow them done. Even the adorable little girl is made to annoy you.
The plot involves a mother trying to go to rehab, but she needs drugs first. And add in a lot of people yelling at each other the whole time. Waste of talented cast.
