it’s like i want to say it’s so bad that it’s bad on purpose but it’s also so unoriginal and underwhelming that no one could have possibly imagined this would garner so bad it’s good absurd attention either
A lot of bad films have a really cool core concept that simply gets lost in the missing budget, lack of talent or skill. This is not one of those films.
A witchslayer & his semi-amnesiac witch sidekick face their pasts & stop a witch queen from possessing the body of a naturally magical maiden.
Easy to see all the fights they filmed, once if you can factor out their shaky cam effect, are ridiculously stupid. It’s limp stuff even for SyFy.
“How come nobody’s reviewed this?” I thought to myself when seeing that, at time of viewing,
I was only the fifth to leave a review.
It’s got supernatural magical powers and crazy looking creatures, along with plenty of scope for swashbuckling violence, maybe even a romantic subplot. AND Shannon Doherty from Twin Peaks is in it. She’s a celebrity. Hollywood A-Lister. Must be good.
... instead, we get this.
Supernatural Soap Opera. Almost supernatural porn (which I’ve never seen...)
Hilarious, gripping, ludicrous, dreadful, bewildering, irresistible.
I had no idea what was going on most of the time, but that didn’t really matter. In fact understanding would very likely undo the magic that the film mananges to weave through the brain of the viewer. Oh and everyone in it is gorgeous.
It might be possible to make a good updated version of Hansel and Gretel but this trifling Syfy original is decidedly NOT it. Choosing to merely throw the hapless viewer into the 'thick' of things with Hansel now being a master witch slayer doing his thing, which I surmise is shooting arrows while poorly CGI'd fireballs come his way. It doesn't get better from there. Charectization is supremely dull when it's not downright confusing, couple that with characters I don't really give two tosses about and it's a recipe for massive boredom. I only got through it only to review, condemn and steer you clear of watching this mess. Also if you're a fan of Shannon Doherty be prepared to be doubly disappointed as she's woefully underused.
