Wonderland
Synopsis
On the afternoon of July 1, 1981, Los Angeles police responded to a distress call on Wonderland Avenue and discovered a grisly quadruple homicide. The police investigation that followed uncovered two versions of the events leading up to the brutal murders - both involving legendary porn actor John Holmes. You're about to experience both versions.

Relatively unknown but surprisingly good film about John Holmes' involvement in the Wonderland murders. Not exactly class editing, the attempt to tell the story from different angles were a little messy. However, the film works well enough thanks to Val Kilmer's fine performance and a nice group of supporting actors. I was also quite surprised to see that Lisa Kudrow could act.

Wonderland is a film chronicling the porn star John Holmes' involvement in the Wonderland Murders back in the early 80s.
I had been looking forward to seeing this for a while because the original case is a really fascinating one, and also because it is rare to see a mainstream film deal with a subject connected to my line of work that isn't directly about the industry itself. I'm not sure they got this film quite right though.
The cast is fantastic and I enjoyed Val Kilmer more here than I did in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, plus Kate Bosworth is really quite good, too. I'm still unsure about her as an actress in general but she plays outside her…

I can't watch Eric Bogosian on L&O:CI without thinking of Eddie Nash in his speedo and robe...

Really underrated movie. It's the darker and dirtier Boogie Nights. Val Kilmer is almost always awesome.

A bunch of unlikable drug addicts end up dead at the hands of other unlikable drug addicts. Who the hell cares? The real life events this film dramatizes were fictionalized into a much more entertaining subplot in BOOGIE NIGHTS.

WAY more enjoyable than I thought it would be. I had actually never heard about the Wonderland murders before seeing this. The use of multiple narratives was actually really effective for a change.

Saw this a long time ago, and it was really good.
But many people dislike this movie. I wonder why?
Will re-watch it again soon. -
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.
