Every documentary has a purpose to it. These days, many of them have a clear political agenda and usually illustrate some injustice or gross, criminal negligence. As for this film, the only clear purpose is to show what is entailed in these dangerous, awful jobs- albeit in a visually striking way.
Aside from the strangely beautiful and horrifying imagery, I really enjoyed seeing the comradery of the men and how it differs in each culture. In all cases, they cope with the danger and gloom of their work by making jokes and talking about everything from the health of their livestock to Bon Jovi (!) to religious beliefs and the role of government.
