Y tu mamá también
2002 Directed by Alfonso Cuarón
Synopsis
Y Tu Mamá También (English: "And Your Mother, Too") is a coming-of-age story about two teenage boys taking a road trip with an older woman. When teenagers Tenoch (Diego Luna) and Julio (Gael Garcia Bernal) meet the alluring, older Luisa (Maribel Verdu) at a wedding, they try to impress her with stories of a road trip to a secret beach, and ultimately convince her to come with them. What follows is an escapade involving seduction, conflict, and the harsh realities of poverty set in 1999 against the backdrop of the political and economic realities of present-day Mexico, specifically at the end of the uninterrupted 71-year line of Mexican presidents from the Institutional Revolutionary Party, and the rise of the opposition headed by Vicente Fox.

Remember those incredibly philosophical yet simple words from The Lion King? This movie is a cinematic projection of it.
Watching this was an amazing experience. I was astounded by the thought of how a film could be made to seem so simple and care free and convey us such a lot of life lessons. Then I realized, all the truths are indeed simple and it is we humans who complicate it.
How many of us would have really given thought about the reason why the moment we live in is termed The Present? Why was it given that name? Who is this present from? We do not know when our lives would end. We do not know whether…

Part of my 100 Movies, 100 Years Project, Year 2002
I'm going to go learn Spanish for the sole purpose of being able to sit back and really appreciate this film. Those subtitles were working their little hearts out just to keep up.
Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN has been described by many as a "sexy" film. If I wanted sexy I would go watch porn or place a dildo in my rear. But damn, yeah, this movie is sexy as hell. And it's wonderfully-acted. And it's beautifully-shot. And it's emotionally whoa look out. The ending is just heartbreaking.
I would give this film 5 stars and possibly place it on my favorite movies list if it wasn't for my linguistic…

From the very opening scene you know what kind of movie you're in for - one that will grab a hold and never let go. What a beautiful, energetic, sexual, and thought-provoking film. Y Tu Mama Tambien makes me want to get out and live a little... live a lot!
It's difficult to put this film into words, and maybe a written review doesn't do it justice. It's both a reflective film and a great cinematic experience. Like any great road film it is filled with great landscapes, gorgeous scenery, and memorable characters with twists and turns throughout. How can things go smooth when two guys take a stunning woman along with them on a road trip with promise of…

Alfonso Cuaron's much celebrated Y tu mamá también is a wonderfully realised depiction of adolescence, a trip that takes the audience through a multitude of emotions and discovery while showcasing Cuaron's electrifying directorial style. The backdrop of Mexico, the heat rising from the roads, is the perfect choice for the coming-of-age story of two young and adventurous men, Tenoch and Julio, and their road trip with the wife of Tenoch's cousin, herself experienced and attractive.
The acting is simply phenomenal and features three equally impressive performances from the leads, making their characters memorable and their exchanges believable. The relationship between the two friends is genuine and heartfelt, while López' portrayal of the broken Luisa is similarly touching. The scenes of…

“Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea.”
-The Narrator (Daniel Gimenez Cacho)Sex and breasts. Those two words could be used to describe director Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu Mamá También. In reality, however, this film is far, far more than that. Granted, there is intercourse, lots of it, and bare flesh is exposed on many occasions, and the script is explicitly sexual in nature, BUT (yes, but) there is so much more going on. The film weaves a simple tale against the backdrop of modern Mexico, as two rather immature adolescents, Tenoch and Julio, embark on a road trip with an attractive, mature woman, Lusia, to the beach.
Do not despair, though, this film is…

Yikes! Dont watch this with your parents!
Interesting, but sad, interaction between two seemingly close friends. Their dynamic together made this film worth watching.

Amei o filme, principalmente o roteiro. Muito bom o narrador que não conta a história e sim, o que está além dela, a realidade a volta e apontando para o futuro.

This movie has a lot of great moments that I appreciate on a late Saturday night. Still, there's also a lot that I don't appreciate. One of those things are the commentaries. They are horribly made, horribly mixed in, and just totally meaningless. Another thing I didn't like, is what happened at the end there...

Fantastic road movie, funny, moving and ridiculously entertaining.
One for your radar if you've not seen it.
