Michael Cera is Michael Cera in a Michael Cera film where Michael Cera plays Michael Cera in a Michael Cera film.
Micheal Cera has his Michael Cera moments though.
3 Michael Ceras out of 5 Michael Ceras. The other 2 Michael Ceras are appearing in the next Michael Cera films starring Michael Cera playing Michael Cera.

Its so easy to fucking hate Michael Cera.
Yet so hard to fucking hate most of his beautiful little movies.

Just die Michael Cera. Just fucking die.

I watched the end of this last night.
I like the part where he attempts to ditch the beamer off the cliff while the police look on in disbelief.
Michael Cera plays a very convincing young Michael Harding.
-
The most underrated comedy since "Used Cars."

Not worth it.

I have a real aversion to most modern American teen comedies. They lack realism in a way I find quite aggravating; the adolescent leads so often don’t behave like real adolescents, the events don’t have realistic consequences.
Thankfully, there is a lot of plausibility in “Youth in Revolt”… which turns this tale of young love into a strange rollercoaster. It begins with an innocent cliché… the smarter-than-average loner desperate to lose his virginity. After meeting the apparent love of his life, Nick Twisp’s life veers roughly off track. I won’t spoil it for you, but it tends to put normal people into extraordinary situations, creating comedy and occasionally discomfort.
There were a lot of things I enjoyed about this film.…

this film was cool and assembled a cool cast. inventive and well directed. I feel like everyone talked how you wish you talked rather than how people actually talk.

Okay, in so many ways fuck this movie. I mean aesthetically and narratively it was good enough to stop me giving it a really negative review, but just on the most basic form of enjoying a movie and liking it's characters, Youth In Revolt is fucking awful. Michael Cera and Portia Doubleday are both good actors, but their characters are so downright awful I don't know which to hate more. Obviously Cera's character is more actively punchable but Doubleday's is so unintentionally pretentious and grating that I honestly can't decide. This isn't the kind of dilemma someone should ponder at the end of a movie.
Just everything about the message of this…

I don't hate Michael Cera, but I don't like this.

Might just be the most Michael Cera film Michael Cera has done. Simple and done quite well.

A satisfying, genuinely funny 'teen' comedy, wherein a fairly straight forward premise is enlivened by a fun cast, with quotable dialogue delivered by the ever reliable Michael Cera and his moustachioed alter ego. It bares comparisons with countless other comedies from the last 10-15 years but there's enough here to justify it's existence. A charming little movie that I'm sure I'll enjoy again in the future.
