My Criterion Collection

See notes for editions - if no comments it's the currently available DVD version. Quite a few are Out Of Print (OOP) - I made a note of those too.

  • Richard - that is bad. Excited to read Showbill's reaction. ;)

  • HA Ha! My collection of DVD and Blu is close to the size of yours Jacob. I admit to having "a lot" waiting to be watched. I had peviously seen, or owned the DVD of a large percentage of my "unwatched" blu-rays. I have recently forbidden myself from buying any more blu-rays of DVDs I already own!! I, like too many others, fell into that PR scam from the studios. Many are not improved enough to justify the upgrade. Some of the new "Criterion" blu-rays are exceptional though.

Richard: Wow!!......I feel better now! :-)
You realize that if you watch one DVD every day; you will be able to go almost 4 years without renting or buying another movie! :-)

  • It seems that my upcoming USA trip coincides with the 50% off sale at Barnes & Noble. How convenient.

  • The Rock is a criterion? :S

  • Armageddon is a Criterion too

  • Yes, but that I knew...

    Bay vs Tarantino.

Bay wins, according to Criterion... Strange world we live in.

  • It's quite a few years since they released those two films, no doubt because they needed a bit of money.

  • Would you or one of the other collectors of Criterions be able to help with this please...?
I have a second-hand copy of Amarcord (in the cardboard case with booklet; appears to be a 2006 edition, but I'm no expert on Criterions).
Over the barcode and on the top of the case there is some sticky stuff which looks like the remains of quite a big label. It's annoying. On plastic or a laminated cover I'd use spirit or nail varnish remover to get rid of it but I'm pretty much certain that would ruin this type of cardboard. Is there anything collectors tend to use instead for this job? Or do you just have to leave it alone?

  • Antonomasia - Oh, that sucks! I've never exprienced that on a Criterion though, could it maybe have been from one of those anti theft tags? Anyway I have no master solution to this...

  • Thanks for the reply. I'll probably just have to ignore it then!

Some Criterions take a day to watch, there's so much bonus material. It's kind of exhausting even if I'm really interested the stuff. Now I know what it can be like I'm amazed so many people buy so many of them (and want so many) rather than just getting them for a smaller number of very special films.
