"You could see people on the shore but it was far off and you couldn't see what they were doin'. They were probably callin' for help or somethin' or they were tryin' to bury somebody or somethin'."

While I personally prefer Malick's later work, Days of Heaven is still an all out masterpiece. For a film with little dialogue and very little story, Days of Heaven has a clarity that is rather impressive. A scene like the locust scene contains a fair amount of subtlety, but at the same time is extremely obvious metaphorically as a parallel to the destruction of the characters lives with the return of Bill to the farm. Malick is the king of heavy handed subtlety, and I love him for it.
