Hard Eight 1996

Dan Rodriguez’s review:
The directorial debut of Paul Thomas Anderson, "Hard Eight" is a solid film by PTA and set ups what will eventually become vintage PTA. Hall puts up a subtle but effective performance as a pro-gambler that helps out a bankrupt young man who shares a very intimate history with him. The film doesn't bring much that we haven't seen but should be seen by any hardcore Paul Thomas Anderson fan.
