Sumptuously directed with wonderfully measured, engrossing dialogue, Cosmopolis is everything good cinema should be. When it isn't busy revealing itself, gorgeous layer by gorgeous layer, it's being every bit as shocking and thought-provoking as you could care for it to be. I loved every inch of this movie and the more I think about it, the more I think it has to be the best film I've seen this year. Don't even get me started on the ending. Immaculate.
I gave it four stars, but I'm thinking I maybe went too low. A week on it's still swirling round my head - and it's visually and sonically more impressive than the last dozen CG-laden blockbusters I've seen.
I think on the whole, it was a four star film, but the ending (which as I've said before can really make me love a film) made me bump it up to a four and a half. The thing is, I'd been thinking about it so much between seeing it and putting it up on here that I just had to bump it up again. Without sounding too ridiculous, it was like a breath of fresh air to me. I loved it. Even the criticisms of it ive heard (it's too 'cold', real people don't talk like that etc) have just made me look more deeply into it and find more to like. I think it's brilliant.
