I can see why 'Only God Forgives' polarised opinion, but I honestly think that many critics had their minds made up for them by the reaction to the film at Cannes - a reaction born of frustration at the fact Winding Refn hadn't made another 'Drive'. It's not 'Drive' but it certainly deserves more credit than it's received. It may basically be a 30 minute plot, filled out with beautiful, neon lit, staring into the middle distance padding. But! It looks amazing, the score is stunning and there are some compelling performances.
