The Avengers 2012
This movie kicks ass. Honestly, this second time around I was continually impressed, Joss Whedon did a damn good job on the skimpy budget I'm sure he was given and yet still delivers an awesome, entertaining, funny, epic, exciting, action-packed movie. I keep saying that everyone fights everyone, every last hero or character gets into some scuffle with each other person at least once, and it's damn fun to watch. Bravo Whedon. I had a few gripes about Hulk and how quick character arcs progress, and his overall editing/pacing, but they're easy to forget considering how great of an experience this movie is.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
My third time seeing this - I enjoyed it as much as I did before. Chris Nolan just delivers a massive, grand epic on a huge scale, the spectacle of it is overwhelming, it goes to some very dark places, big twists and turns. It is huge and it does bow a little bit under its weight, the first act takes a little while to get going, but other than that it's still an awesome experience of a movie. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman gets me every time, I love her. Bane is also still insanely badass.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
The Dark Knight Has Risen... Wow. It's epic. Chris Nolan's grand, modern, cinematic opera. Goes to some very dark places, massive, but spectacular. So much to love about it. Oh my, Hathaway. Zimmer's score is extraordinary. Cannot wait to see it again, to discuss it with many people, get into details, oh so good.

The Dark Knight 2008
Awesome, brilliant, extraordinary, cinematic and amazing. Even better, Nolan at his very best here.

Prometheus 2012
Awesome. Big, beautiful, thrilling, breathtaking, exciting sci-fi. I loved it. Sure, it has a few issues with it, mainly that it asks more questions than it answers... but besides that, it's space opera thrilling sci-fi at its best, only the way Ridley Scott can deliver. I've already seen it twice and plan on spending a lot more time exploring the universe, getting deeper and deeper into the story and characters each time. This is a movie that takes multiple viewings…

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
I liked it, but didn't love it. Felt a bit dry, lacking something, but enjoyable. Very fun, very quirky, very Wes Anderson, but not his best work. I like some of his other films more, but this is good. A cute, charming, amusing young love story.

The Hunger Games 2012
I love this movie, it's dark, gritty, intriguing modern post-apocalyptic sci-fi with a smart edge to it. Jennifer Lawrence is great, Josh Hutcherson is even better, the whole movie is incredible well done, and it has an epic feeling to it that makes me excited for the rest of the series and the influence Katniss will have on all of Panem. You're going down, Snow!

The Amazing Spider-Man 2012
Hmmmm I will admit, a slight let down from what I was expecting. It's good, it has a few AWESOME moments (saving the kid from the burning car; final swinging scenes) and has great characters/relationships, but other than that it doesn't really stand out. It just feels like a very basic, bland, toned down, family-friendly Spidey story, with a few cool moments, some awkward story beats, and weird changes, but overall just basic. I wanted to like it more, but couldn't, though maybe it will grow on me. Lizard was also unimpressive, go figure. I'm excited for the sequel - at least!

Cloud Atlas 2012
"Fear. Belief. Love. Phenomena that determine the course of our lives." It's the movie of the year. A bold, ambitious, grand storytelling accomplishment that I dare say is a true cinematic revelation. I have been anxiously/impatiently waiting to finally see filmmakers Andy & Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer take on adapting David Mitchell's epic novel Cloud Atlas, which seamlessly blends six different storylines in an attempt to look at the meaning of life and the decisions that impact this universe. I…
