In 1967, In the Heat of the Night won best picture. At the time this was a startling success for a New Hollywood picture which broke from convention. It wasn't a conventional drama, it dealt with racial issues in an upfront manner and it even showed a black man slapping a white man (gasp!).

The Royal Tenenbaums 2001
This film is in no way guilty of the chief sin it’s accused of: style over substance. While Anderson’s stylistic flourishes are in full force, so is his knack for heartfelt slowly paced drama. So much so that it breaks through the “quirky” overtly-constructed feel of the film. For a filmmaker who consistently delivers interesting films based around the same (clearly v.personal) themes, it must be irritating for so many people not to see through the artifice

Fantastic crime drama about a family of bank robbers, some fantastic parts (the performances by the matriarch, Pope and Joe, the absolute tension and unpredictable plot, the scene with soft rock + orchestral score, the opening scene and other great dark humour), just missed out on being perfect by some cheesy Hollywood speeches and moments
