  • Django Unchained 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 31 Jan, 2013

There is a really, really, really good western hiding in this film, in fact, you don't have to look too hard to see it which makes the final three hour cut seem a lot worse than it is.

For the first hour of Django Unchained, I was in love with every second of it, the story, the knowing references, the photography and most importantly Christoph Waltz. The man has such magnetism, such charisma, such presence that it's impossible to take…

  • The Wolf of Wall Street 2013

It's a three hour film starring Jonah Hill and I didn't want to tear my eyes out.

  • The Dark Knight Rises 2012

    ★★★★ Added

I think this might be the best of the three Nolan films. Although I didn’t come out of the screen gushing the way I did at The Dark Knight, that might have to do with the 6AM screening time, but I think in the long run this is the better film. It shares more in common with Batman Begins in that it focuses on part of the over arching story more than being just another episode and the fact that…

What a let down. While I've been a fan of Pegg, Frost and Wright since Spaced, I was a little disappointed with Hot Fuzz and it's sad to say The World's End continues their downward trend. It's really quite sad to realise, when watching a film about a group of old friends chasing after past glories, that the people behind it are doing exactly that.

With Shaun of the Dead, Pegg and Frost's blokey friendship contrasted brilliantly with the sheer…

  • Inside Llewyn Davis 2013

    ★★ Watched 30 Jan, 2014

I love the Cohens, I love 60s folk music, I love Greenwich Village so why did I feel so apathetic towards this film? As music sounds better with bass and treble, movies need their own dynamics, highs and lows in story, in energy or in their actors’ performances, unfortunately, much like the central character, Inside Llewyn Davis is all too content to just drift along right in the middle.

My love for the Cohens is heavily based around their abilities…

  • This Is the End 2013

    ★★★ Watched 05 Jul, 2013

I’ve never really been won over by the brand of comedy peddled by Seth Rogan and his associates but This Is The End’s story had me sufficiently intrigued to give it a go. If done right there was a lot of potential for a great film.

After the opening scenes establish the conflict between Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogan, two old friends who have grown apart, the action moves to James Franco’s housewarming party and the film comes into its…

  • The Master 2012

    ★★★½ Watched 27 Nov, 2012

I'm not entirely sure how to rate this one. When it was all boisterous, paint thinner-fueled, energy-to-burn, loose cannon exuberance I absolutely loved it but then...everything...sort...of...just...grinds...to...a...halt, the story doesn't really advance and it seems to lose a bit of focus. Or maybe it was just me that lost focus as the film crept over the two hour mark. It's definitely something I'll need to watch again to discover how I really feel about it.

What I can say for certain…
