Django Unchained 2012
There is a really, really, really good western hiding in this film, in fact, you don't have to look too hard to see it which makes the final three hour cut seem a lot worse than it is.
For the first hour of Django Unchained, I was in love with every second of it, the story, the knowing references, the photography and most importantly Christoph Waltz. The man has such magnetism, such charisma, such presence that it's impossible to take…

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
I think this might be the best of the three Nolan films. Although I didn’t come out of the screen gushing the way I did at The Dark Knight, that might have to do with the 6AM screening time, but I think in the long run this is the better film. It shares more in common with Batman Begins in that it focuses on part of the over arching story more than being just another episode and the fact that…

The Master 2012
I'm not entirely sure how to rate this one. When it was all boisterous, paint thinner-fueled, energy-to-burn, loose cannon exuberance I absolutely loved it but then...everything...sort...of...just...grinds...to...a...halt, the story doesn't really advance and it seems to lose a bit of focus. Or maybe it was just me that lost focus as the film crept over the two hour mark. It's definitely something I'll need to watch again to discover how I really feel about it.
What I can say for certain…

The Amazing Spider-Man 2012
I really enjoyed this. I don't know anything about the comics. My friend who is very defensive of the comics on the other hand was much less enthusiastic.
Anyway, I thought Andrew Garfield was excellent and the relationship between Parker and Gwen was done very well. Martin Sheen seemed to be battling with new teeth but provided enough personality and character to make you care enough when he dies, even Bill Hicks... I mean Denis Leary, turns in a decent…

Dredd 2012
First off, the amount I know about Judge Dredd can be written on the back of the cinema ticket. Apart from the Stallone film and some videogames I don't know the character at all so any fanboys can take this with a pinch of salt.
This is a perfectly competent action movie, what it does well, it does very well. The action is full on comic book style, all exploding heads and loud, pimped out guns filmed in a refreshingly…

Seven Psychopaths 2012
I think I watched a different film to everybody else.
I liked Six Shooter, I liked In Bruges, I liked Get Shorty, I liked Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I love Tom Waits, I love Christopher Walken, I really like Woody Harrelson... so why didn't I like this?
What appears on the screen appears to me like a first draft, everything is so unfocused. Farrell as one of the main characters has absolutely no defining qualities, he's just a man, he…
