21 Jump Street 2012 ★★★★

This was loads of fun. Didn't know what to expect, as I never saw the original series this was based on.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are sent to a High School as undercover cops to investigate a drug ring. Because the times have changed, their own high school experience being 7 years in the past, they have to come to terms with the fact that jocks are no longer cool and eco-warriors and nerds are the new kings among the teens.
The two lead characters make the film a very enjoyable experience, they have some nice on screen chemistry going on. Even beefcakey Tatum has great comedy moments.
The rest of the cast stays one dimensional. Too bad! I'd love to have seen more of Ellie Kemper and Nick Offerman.
The film could have been an unbearable male adolescent fantasy, but it manages to stay funny, light and interesting until the (unexpectedly violent) end. The snappiness of the action, the dialogue and the great male leads made me forgive the plot holes, tired Cop Movie tropes and incongruities.
