The Hunger Games 2012
Interesting theme: A dystopian future state holds annual games where two young contestants from each of 12 districts fight each other to the death until only one remains.
Even though this is heavy stuff the film does not manage to connect on an emotional level. It suffers from "Harry Potter" syndrome: Films based on a popular teen fiction franchise need to prop a bunch of plot points from the books into the story. This seldom makes for a good film.… -
Charade 1963
Apparently every two years or so I get an itch to watch a movie with Audrey Hepburn because she's such a big deal to so many people. And every two years my choice is "Charade", because the reviews make it sound interesting. Unbeknownst to me I will have already seen this film two years ago and forgotten all about it.
So while watching this I always have this eerie deja-vu feeling (because I have actually deja vued this film), trying…

21 Jump Street 2012
This was loads of fun. Didn't know what to expect, as I never saw the original series this was based on.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are sent to a High School as undercover cops to investigate a drug ring. Because the times have changed, their own high school experience being 7 years in the past, they have to come to terms with the fact that jocks are no longer cool and eco-warriors and nerds are the new kings among… -
The Avengers 2012
This was a bunch of fun. Of course it's a movie about grownups in weird costumes who are fighting against CGI aliens. So if that's not your cup of tea this movie is clearly not for you. But if you are looking for some action packed entertainment that does not take itself all too serious: this movie delivers great action and light hearted banter in spades.

Pulp Fiction 1994
Saw this in 1994, when I was 15. Rewatching it always reminds me what a formative experience that was. 2.5 hours, not one uninteresting minute in it.

Wet Hot American Summer 2001
Heard about this movie through the Podcast "Bullseye with Jesse Thorn" which has an entertaining interview with director David Wain. Thoroughly enjoyable, funny, absurd and packed with great comedians before their prime.

Four Lions 2010
It's a comedy about four British suicide bombers. Doesn't get much darker than that. The wannabe mujaheddin and the authorities are both presented as fully incompetent. The film provided some chuckles, but it was also a tad boring towards the end, because the outcome was so predictable.

Mean Girls 2004
I didn't like anyone in this film. And I am usually a fan of Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Lizzy Caplan's work.

X-Men: First Class 2011
Not bad, but not good either. Pretty bland "tick all the boxes" origin story. Kevin Bacon makes a great sixties villain tho.
