Pygmalion 1938 ★★★★

I'm ashamed to say I've never seen this film before. Why? Don't know for sure, I knew it exsisted.

Based on the play by George Benard Shaw. Shaw co-wrote the film adaption because he wanted to ensure that his dialog stayed true to his vision, to his sucessful play. Shaw had never liked any film that was adapted from his work, so in order to get this film made, they gave in. Shaw won an Oscar for the screenplay.

If you've ever seen or heard about My Fair Lady (the musical is based on the stage musical, based on the Shaw play), it's essitionaly the exact same story. Leslie Howard is hysterical, witty, charming, makes the movie. (He also co-directed, his directoral debut.) The dialog is witty, sharp, fast flowing, perfect. The names Higgins calls Eliza are insaine, insulting, hysterical. Such an enjoyable film.
