What have you seen? Anime, just like animation in general, is incredibly diverse from the gentle pastoral relationships of Only Yesterday to the mindfuck of Mind Games, there really isn't a unifying style of storytelling per se.
I have seen quite a bit, and none of it has affected me in the way American animation has. I'm much more a fan of the Disney and Pixar style, which, to me, can make for some of the most flawless films ever conceived.
Good man, you've included the two action masterpieces with Nic Cage. How about L.A. Confidential or Lost Highway, though?
How about Princess Mononoke
L.A. Confidential is good, but never tickled my fancy. Need to re-watch it.
Lost Highway is good, but too fucked-up and not in a fun, semi-coherent way like Mulholland Dr.
I could not care less about anime.
It is a shame you feel that way about anime, do you not like animation in general?
I love animation. I just don't like the anime style of storytelling. Not my thing at all.
